Bgiiflgf Q, As the basketball season opened there was a tremendous amount of uncertainty about the Hornet's chances for the upcoming season. The only starter returning from last year was center Goose Tatum. But, fortunately for the Hornets, they came up with three fine players from last year's powerful Jayvee squad and rolled up a 16-9 record, winning the conference tourna- ment. The team opened with an impressive win over weak E. Davidson, but then lost a tough game to lVlt. Tabor. The team recouped by beating Coach Jones's home school, Alleghany. Another vic- tory over E. Davidson helped to prepare the squad for their trip to lVladison-lVlayodan, one of the state's finest 3-A teams. The Hornets played IVladison-lVIayodan even for three quarters but then lost their composure in the last quarter and were beaten. Another loss to lVlt. Tabor follow- ed, with the team playing a terrible floor game, shooting 32M from the field and missing 20 free throws and making 17 turnovers. Over the holi- days the team beat W. Davidson, E. Randolph, and Alleghany. -li
