Jr. Jaycees The Jr. Jaycees is a nonprofit organization of boys in Western between the grades of 10-12. This year it was composed of around twenty boys, mostly se- niors. The club undertook many worthwhile projects during the school year. Its annual tradition of selling light-bulbs was started to raise money for charities and it is still serving this function. The club held meetings twice monthly where it decided upon issues brought up by the members. It was here, also, that the framework for the club's numerous projects was prepared. After a hard meeting the club usually relaxed before adjournment by engaging in a few games of ping-pong and billiards. mg Eric Taylor collects money from light bulb sale Seated: S. Linvilleg S. They met once a week, usually on Wednesdays at the Fish Hole. Under the leadership of John Hanner, the Key Club had several projects this year. The main project was the put- ting together of a very success- ful football program. With the money raised, they bought a new spotlight for the audi- torium. Each week two members from the Key Club attended a Kiwanis' luncheon as guests. Several members also attended the annual Key Club conven- tion in Columbia, South Caro- lina, on March 26, 27, and 28. The officers for the year 1970-1971 were President, 65 John Hanner: Vice-President, Paul Blust: Secretary, David Richard: and Treasurer, Tom Davis. Key Club meets weekly at Fish hole.

They set up a new pro- cedure-that of having din- ner meetings. They helped in the Miss Greensboro pageant and continued their beautification work which was begun with the purchase of our lovely school sign several years ago. Wanda Thomas, Presi- dent, Lissa Smith, Vice- President, Barbara Horney, Secretary, Kay Huffine, Treasurer, Eve Rallings, Program Chairman, Sally Chance, Senior Director, Debbie Davis, Junior Di- rector, Sandy Cummings, Chaplain, and Mrs. Vicki Morgan, our sponsor, led our club onward and up- ward. Money earned through bake sales and the annual bazaar was donated to help pay the rent for settlement houses for drug addicts, and went to pro- vide one of Western's se- niors with a scholarship.
