Fifty-one Beta Club members started the school year with enthusiastic plans for fund-raising and projects. One of the first actions was to raise the membership requirement from 3.0 to a 3.2 grade- point average. In November, twenty-two new mem- bers-sophomores and juniors-were inducted into the club in a candlelight ceremony. Instead of, and perhaps worse than, initiation they immediately par- ticipated in planning for the district convention, held at Western on November 19. Beta Club members from five other area schools attended this convention, participating on election of officers, talent compe- tition, and accounts of the past year's activities. Plans were made for further activities, and in April, several club members attended the state con- vention in Asheville. Seventy-three members ended the year by award- ing scholarships to two outstanding seniors. l Mrs. Lail speaks at district convention. B C I u b '-'lf Z s l First row: Mrs. Lail, Sponsor, C.
