A required course for ninth grade girls, home economics encompasses cooking, child development, clothing, good grooming, and housing-interior dec- oration, while introducing basic homemaking skills. More advanced students took Home Ec ll, which further developed those skills. Family living, taught by lVlr. Tucker, discussed problems of marriage and family life. Physical Education Builds Western's Student Body Mr. Allen Jones, Phys. Ed. Miss Martha L. Smith, Phys. Ed. Mr. John Brooks, Phys. Ed., Biology Boy, recess used to be one of our favorite subjects, but when it comes to Phys Ed... A common gripe in eighth and ninth grade circles, it's come a long way from 1892 and James Naismith. This year the classes participated in the usual foot- ball, basketball, speedball, archery, track, and tumb- ling, along with classes in health. In addition, the students land even some of the teachersl took advan- tage of our new trampoline.
