Mrs. Carolyn Hopper, Algebra I, Geometry Mrs. Becky Solomon, Algebra l, ll Mrs. Brenda Lail, Geometry, Advanced Math Genius . . . 1'M1 Inspiration and After the first couple of months of school, walking into lVlrs. Lail's room was like walking through a jungle - a jungle of geometric shapes and construc- tion paper. And what were her advanced math stu- dents doing, muttering, n times n minus one dot dot dot n minus k plus one over k factorial! ? The math courses offered at Western affected near- ly all of the students. General math and pre-algebra gave students a better understanding of our number system. Algebra and geometry courses led tfhe student from a beginning knowledge through the mysterious worlds of y:mx+b and v:1rr2h . lVIore serious math students went into the study of analysis and trigonometry in preparation for college. Biology and advanced biology students studied the living organisms in our world, with emphasis placed on environment and ecology. Physical science pro- vided an introduction to topics which were studied later in more detail in physics. And chemistry - D'you understand, son? - gave the student a broad understanding of the elements which make up his world.
