We were the start of a new trend. A trend that saw the building of the quonset huts, Curley Hall, the Science building, that watched new' blood enter the faculty, that saw old traditions die and watched as new ideas were born-the Banquet, the C. G. A. Banquet, Interim, Do-day, the Curriculum Committee. And so it was with the yearbook. It too must succumb to change. Our yearbook will be the last to be edited soley by Seniors. ln the future the yearbook will no longer be a class project but a school proiect. With our yearbook we have tried somewhat to bridge the gap between the old and the new. We have attempted to make this yearbook one that will be of interest not only to Seniors but to members of all classes. In doing this we have filled the pages with many and varied pictures,.,and- have tried to keep literary sections of interest only to Seniors ata minimum. We have worked hard and with sincerity, and hope to be iudged accordingly. I I 2 l JESSE H. BRILL DEDICATION In the many years that Mr. Brill has been a member of our faculty he, in his unassum- ' nner has worked tirelessly for the betterment of our college. He has been an able mg ma , superintendent of the training schools and a stimulating teacher. He has filled our classes with practical knowledge and advice garnered through experience. He has been quick to smile and has inspired us with his own unwavering ideals. And so as a token of apprecia- tion for all that he has don him of us for we shall always remember him. e we dedicate to him this yearbook. May it serve to remind 3 'r - H' - -fr-'M' ..- -, .-:r5v2..,., ... ,,,.-A l f far, , fiyf. , ,mA My A4.-J!'l-At 'ibn 1 -Z J, ' '--My--.-L.u. -M, ,. .. .:'1. HAAS M l X f J 2 I' We shall always remember President Haas for her warm personality and sparkling manner which inspires friendliness. We admire her also for the unceasing zeal with which she has carried forth the standards of our college. But most important of all, possessing a keen insight to the problems of educa- tion, she is an able advisor to all who seek her counsel. I 4 - V' V F k V Y' V H- 1 . . -. 7 -Y rU ,, I i C' .r,1-ALF! ' - - Q fiB? a + CLASS HISTORY We entered D.T.C. Our faces lighted with expectation and our voices lilted our anti- cipation. Everyone was new and things were different. Our lives were laid out on a new road. A road of new wonders, both seen and unseen. A road of science to which we looked with wonder and eagerness. There was a period of orientation. Meeting people, getting lost and really feeling our way around. Finally, Christmas time brought our first formal get-together. A Christmas party at the Candlewood Inn with miseltoe and all the trimmings. The highlight of the evening was a delicious turkey dinner. We traditionally ate to much. However, IIMUYIII would not let us sit and relax. Dancing took place and soon the whole Candlewood Inn was alive with music and laughter. I The party was a deversion from the lives we had been leading. For the first five months we had our noses in Zoology. Our noses out of HQS, which was an experience we shall never forget. CNor will D.T.C.J Others of us were constantly in the Shack. The clear nights were illuminated by sparks flying from that direction. In a few words, we worked! Spring came and so did the College Play. You can be sure we had our fingers in this also. The play, The Night of January I6th, required much of our time. Most of us had a part. If not on the stage at the performance, we had our hands in the paint for scenery or collecting props. This was one point in our career when we demonstrated our scientific faheml talents. We lighted the stage and dabbled in the grease paint. In spite of our theatrical inexperience, theplay was a big success and we enioyed every minute of it. Spring also brought Interim and a new experience. We scattered. Some of us stayed in our home towns, some drove as far as California. We worked in labs, factories, offices, and many other places. We gained considerably. The information and experiences added depth to our learning and gave us much that will be needed in our scientific work. Above all we met many people and we gained a broader outlook in the scientific world. ' After Interim we found ourselves in the midst of Do-Day proiects. And with Do-Day we planned our campaign for the traditional Dean for a Day. Our candidates were John Morrison, who ran for Dean of Women, and Terry D'Ambrosie for Dean of Men. We didn't win, but the fun we had was a greater reward. Do-Day finally arrived and it has gone down in our book of memories. We worked with a musical background and we had an afternoon of sports followed by a supper and entertainment. Before we knew it, summer was almost upon us. To celebrate the coming of vacation, we piled into a bus and we were off to Rye Beach. Oh, Rye Beach! We bathed in the sun for a few hours and went swimming in the clear pool of HQO. Yes, we shall never forget this day. Finally vacation arrived. We looked back with sadness and forward with eagerness and resolution to September when we would be Sophomores and in a sense Seniors because this was to be our last year. 56 I' I I I 1-. sr ,- ,L , 1 f,..:..,g,.g JL ,. f , -f., .2 J-4 I ,gif-QL nfl- V nj A ' f' V A 1 . . 4 ' . ., Summer went by as fast as our first year We again met each other and many new faces appeared at D T C among the students and faculty The expansion of our college was more evident than ever during this year. Our first semester brought calculus, bacteriology, and swarms of odors both old and new from the lab. lt also brought our greatest accomplishment, the Snack Bar to which we ran between classes. Above all, we could see the new Science Building nearing completion and we waited for the day when we would be using it. The much needed addition was like a gift from heaven. We are proud of it and hope that the future science students will enjoy its conveniences as much as we have. Winter's snow came and so did our annual Christmas party. We celebrated and wished our friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and then departed for a much needed vacation. We now look forward to Spring and our trip to New York with the Science Confer- ence at Barnard College. Above all, June will bring graduation and a regretful end to our days at D.T.C. We have had two happy and successful years together. We have acquired many friendships and a wealth of knowledge. Now we must depart, so its not farewell, but till we meet again. Such a dynamic force was he, that we who were placed in contact with him, were propelled by his greC1Tr16SS- Academically, he gave to us great in- spiration, socially he enlightened US: financially, he enriched us.
