What Is Ursa Minor? Ursa Minor, Little Bear, or the Little Dipper is a long-handled, star-studded cup of the Northern sky. Ursa Major is associated with it when referring to the Big and Little Dippers. One of the seven stars of Ursa Minor is Polaris or the North Star, which has long been important to navigators and explorers as an indicator of the North. The origin of Ursa Minor can be traced back to Greek mythology to a tale including Callisto a nymph, his son Arcus, and Zeus, 'king of the gods. When Arcus tried to kill his father, both were made bears, and placed in the sky Where they remain forever. Supposedly, the tails of the bears, which form the handles of the dippers were stretched when Zeus pulled them into the sky. This first annual staff of 1971-1972 has chosen the name, Ursa Minor above all others because we believe that this name truly signifies the character and dignity of Which we the students of Western Branch Junior High possess. We hope this name will be remembered by all who survey the halls of our school, Western Branch junior High and that our efforts will not be in vain. X Q , X l, X X N. .
