IOE WALL WESTERN BIBLE COLLEGE CCJIVIES TO A CRGSSROAD Western Bible Institute was founded by Mr. Carl C. Harwood, Sr., who went to be with the Lord in 1957. Mr. Harwood was a very gifted evangelist who used a variety of means to encourage unsaved people to come to his meetings. Some of the means he used were magic object lessons, Victor Thermon tan instru- ment played without touchingl, fluorescent rocks, and a trained Arabian horse. A group of young men asked Mr. Harwood to share some of his methods. He responded with a two-week seminar of instruction and evening evangelistic ser- vices in which they used these methods. As the weeks progressed, Mr. Harwood realized that the young men did not have a thorough knowledge of the Bible. The methods could never produce results unless these young men were well grounded in the Word of Cod. As a result, Mr. Harwood began to plan for a Bible institute in which the study of the Bible would be predominant. ' f ' I KW I f, w The first location of Western Bi- ble College was West Evans and South jason in Denver. In 1958 the classes were moved temporarily to Englewood First Christian Church in order to expand the courses offered. 4-ima ' f X K J! if J' Q T i-'tb l 'X li ' g .123 471 JN' 4 , t Carl C. September 21-23 was the date, and Star Ranch at Colorado Springs provided the beautiful setting. It proved to be a relaxing, as well as an enriching time. Our speaker, jerry Larson challenged us in our spiritual life and daily walk with the Lord. Many ac- tivities were available, such as softball, Volleyball, basket- ball, ping-pong, hiking, or just doing nothing. Being away from school pressures gave us time to develop new rela- tionships, and strengthen old ones, many of which are strong today. It was scheduled to start on Tuesday, but a heavy snow storm made it necessary to delay the first session until Wednesday. Yet, God greatly used this week to bring many of us to a place in our lives where we were willing to serve the Lord wherever He leads. The main speakers were Mr. Don Richard- son and Dr. Eugene Williams. In addition, there were several missionaries representing various mission boards. He brou ht some s iritual truths from the Word, one of which was the flact that God has always had missions in mind. He proved this not onl from the five com- missions but also from passages throughout Scripture. Dr. Eugene Williams, who has served since 1977 as General Director of the American Missionary Fellowship, was an excellent speaker with a great sense of humor. We learned some very important aspects of the Christian life as he presented truths we had not been aware of before. It was also exciting to get acquainted with real missionaries, some of them stayed on campus, and the students had the opportunity to talk to them on an informal basis. mann , N? 91,1 fx-lk r jx SAGE lt. tfx'7lfSSiQN -M TI I li WC AGE UST D 19 - fx -,.'j3,.g.1qf , ' yu M1ss1oNARY BANQUET l Friday night was the climax of the week. The focus of the messages was that God Needs You Your Family Needs You, The Church Needs You, and The World Needs You, Mr. Gangel approached these topics from the viewpoint of leader- ship in the home, the church, and society. Students as well as faculty were blessed by the impact of this teaching, as well as by the various songs that were sung- including one by Dr. Ciangel. God really used all those involved to make this another tremen- dously successful and refreshing Spiritual Life Conference. 71 S.M.I. Officers: MR. A group of students, led by Mr. Morgan, attended the Urbana Missions Conference over Christmas break. The main thrust of the spring semester was to provide opportunity and support for students to participate in summer missions. Thirteen student represented W.B.C. throughout the world during the summer of 1985.
