Dr. Boyd, born and raised in Texas, began his life in the Lord in 1960. He completed 4 years of college at Texas Tech, followed by graduate training at Dallas Theological Seminary. After graduation from seminary in 1964, Mr. Boyd relocated to Tacoma, Washington, where he held the position of Associate Pastor at Lake City Community Church for 2 years. ln 1967, Dr. Boyd became part of the Western Bi- ble College family. He began as Chairman of the Department of Christian Education, follow- ed by Academic Dean, then finally as President of the col- lege from 1978-1984. Dr. Boyd was instrumental in the development of Western's CTE program, added to the curriculum in 1979. Because of its excellence, the CTE depart- ment was later approved by The Association of Christian Schools International for Teacher Certification Status. Dr. Boyd also began the Foothills Bible Church in 1974. The congregation originally met in the WBC chapel but through growth and expansion has moved to its present facility on West Belleview Ave. Enroll- ment reached its peak during Dr. Boyd's Presidency in the fall of1'982. Although William Boyd's ac- complishments cannot and should not be undermined, his truly outstanding ac- complishments occurred in the hearts and lives of people. His orientation was that of eternal values. Those that worked with Mr. Boyd, felt he evidenced a deep hunger for the things of God. He is described by WBC faculty and staff as a man who really lived what he believed. Teaching was his most promi- nent gift as he provided refreshing yet convicting il- lustrations that made his messages applicable to daily life. Students described Dr. Boyd as a good listener - always finding time to talk with students and encourage their efforts. Discipleship was a primary concern of Dr. Boyd as he spent much time training students for ministry. Dr. Boyd possessed an eter- nal optimism that prevented failures from overcoming him. He truly performed his work 'las unto the Lord fCol. 31231 with an attitude of humility and servanthood.
