The hunger for a person to be right in the influx of this gigantic move of God gnaws at the souls of men. Hunger is a natural drive, but if those hunger pains go unheeded, unsatisfied, it will cause frustration, sickness, and finally death. We have had the pains of hunger for many years, and just as we are about to starve to death, we have come to realize that the storehouse of Apostolic prayer, power, miracles is not empty. This mighty storehouse is located right in our backyard within the reach of an extended hand and hungry heart We at WABC are feeling the birth pains of this strange spiritual era. The chapel services have become vital spiritual experiences The atmosphere of the classroom seems to become an almost audible voice shouting in desperate tones, f'Feed me the Word I must have the Word please give me more and more of the Word! It seems as though we have been granted a new dimension in absorbing the Word of God Faith is beginning to mount in our hearts A new era of the Old Apostolic Power by the coming of the Lord We of this generation are so blessed of God' To us has been given the privilege to awake early enough to see the Dawn The Dawning of a New Era The Editorial Staff , .Zh - . . . , l iiffz i: 9 f ' . . . ,. 'F0-1: g:,ef:m+'SS-2 C I I Q -o December 9, 1910, Nancy and Bony Shoemake welcomed the tenth of their eleven children into their humble home in Porum, Oklahoma. Little did they realize as they cuddled their new-born son Voar that he was destined to become a chosen vessel for the Lord. Three wonderful and outstanding events happened to Bro. Shoemake when he was twenty-three years of age. God marvelously filled him with the baptism of the Holy Ghost and called him into His service. Bro. Shoemake's love for God and his compassion for lost souls burned in his heart until he felt he had to tell the world that Jesus saves. He had no bible of his own, but this didn't stop Bro. Shoemake from preaching. He borrowed a bible and took for his text, God's Spirit will not always strive with man. In the same year, 1933, Bro. Shoemake met a lovely, sweet, and dedicated young lady named Blanche Kilgore. Their friendship soon blossomed, and they united in marriage to work together for the Lord. Sis. Shoemake has worked faithfully with her husband, and God blessed them with four precious children who are all serving the Lord and working in His vineyard. Bro. Shoemake was ordained in 1934. He evangelized in the Mid-West and pastored several churches in Oklahoma until he came to South Modesto, California in 1949. He was Vice-President of the Tulsa Bible College from about 1944-1947. Bro. Shoemake and family arrived in San Jose, California in 1951. The first church consisted of 18 people who assembled in a home for services. After much toil, patience, and prayer this humble Shepherd of God led many souls to the Master. From a small gathering of 18 souls,God has prospered this man and his flock with over 500 in Sunday School attendance. In addition to being the shepherd of a good church in San Jose, California, Bro. Shoemake is serving as a member of the Foreign Missions Department of the United Pentecostal Church International. Through the years Bro. Shoemake has been a friend and loyal supporter of Western Apostolic Bible College. On different occasions, he brought several men from his church to help on building projects at WABC and the First Pentecostal Church. His financial contributions have been a blessingto the progress of the school. Not only his labor and finances are appreciated, but also his willingness to serve as a counselor and teacher at the College for two years is appreciated. This was especially welcomed during the time of the late Clyde J. Haney's sudden demise. Bro. Shoemake's patient counseling with students and his Spirit-filled teaching in the classroom will live on in the lives of many students from WABC. To this worthy man of God, Reverend F. V. Shoemake, We sincerely dedicate the 1973-74 yearbook OUR TREASURE. Editorial Staff Q 4 4 a , WN. zf it vi:-I! rr ' - .- ' 5. , 3' N .-- wp , I .him an-. JST gf V if F:-' ...'-1-'-2: ,. av. Not only does the church realize the end of this age is drawing near, but also the world has a sense of something clifiterent about to happen. This does not necessarily mean that it is immediate, but it does tell ns that the church needs to position and prepare herself as never before. The challenge is greater today than it has ever been. Our forefathers served their generation well. But more is expected today than yesterday3 how- ever, because to whom much is given much shall be required. Many of the ways and methods of yesterday are not adequate because this is a different generation-an age of much prominence being placed upon education. We must equip ourselves with the Word to go forward with power to help break the chains that bind this generation that is orientated with sex, drugs, etc., lt is a new era that calls for young people to fight eye to eye personally backing up their beliefs with with the Word of God. What better way to become acquainted with the Bible in an intimate way than to go to a God-fearing Bible College? Sam Walter Foss knew the beauty with which America was crowned, but he also sensed that beauty of land was not enough and aptly penned these memorable words: Bring me men to match my mountains, Bring me men to match my plains Men with empires in their purpose And NEW ERAS in their brain. This is the cry of Jesus Christ. The need for men to send forth labourers is now. We need young people with a greater vision that will exceed the past generations. Zeal is not always enough. There should be a time of preparing oneself for the great task that is ahead. ln times past we toiled to win one soul, but now it seems like the harvest is ripe-ready, God is looking for young men and women that will sharpen their sickle NOW. Even while in Bible School getting their training, they can be used in the reaping of the grain. There is much oppor- tunity for our Youth today. They have great faith and vision. This faith coupled with prayer and training can move mountains for God. uLife must be dedicated to a destiny in order to have meaning. TODAY, make a decision to give yourself to God. Make your life count. Do not be a drifter, but join the marching army of God's chosen who are aflame with His spirit and are reaching outto learn more about His precious Word. This is the Dawning of a New Era. We are seeing things happen as never before. Become involved. Train yourself at Bible College. . it H Rev. Phillip A. Dugas Executive Vice President The past two decades have produced many crises which have led to many changes taking place in our life style and thinking in the world and America. Since September of 1953, we have seen outer-space exploration with man landing on the rnoong assassinations of national leaders: riots in the cities, riots on college campusesg the rise of the hippie generation, the widespread use of drugsg the Vietnam Warg three wars in the Middle Eastg crises in governmentg and now as I am writing this paper, the prospect of long range energy shortages and possible food shortages. During the past twenty years, there has been pronounced turn towards ungodliness by the people in America. Many church doors are closed, and religious organizations find themselves with declining church rolls and increased financial distress. The interest of many is turning towards Occultism and Witchcraft. ln this same period of time, the United Pentecostal Church has experienced a great revival around the world with hundreds of ministers being added to the ranks, hundreds of new churches being established, and thousands of souls experiencing salvation according to Acts 2:38. Doors of ministry have been opened to us that we never thought possible twenty years ago. As we ponder in our minds what the next twenty years will hold, it seems inconceivable that the true church will still be on the earth by the year 1993. However, the apparent will of God is for His church to occupy until He comes, There is to be no packing of the suitcases and idle time spent waiting for the Lord to comeg rather,He is coming after a church that is on fire for Him and zealous of good works, Therefore, until He comes we must continue to evangelize the world with the message of New Testament Salvation which is faith in Jesus Christ to save, followed by repentance, water baptism in Jesus' Name for the remission of sins, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance., This experience of the baptism of the Holy Spirit opens the believer's heart to understand the great truth of who Jesus really is, God manifested in flesh. The burden of evangelizing the world carries with it the responsibility of teaching them to observe whatsoever I have commanded you CMatthew 282193. Jesus is coming back after a church without spot or wrinkle or any such thing. It will be a church that is cleansed from the filth of the world from which it has been saved. This responsibility of teaching has been given into the hands of the ministry.. The role of the Western Apostolic Bible College for the future is made clear to us. It will be the same as it has been from its inception-namely, contending for the faith once delivered unto the- saints. It will be that of developing Holy Ghost filled, God-called people in the ways of the Bible and the ministry of God's Word. The main textbook will be the Bible, and strong emphasis will be placed upon the need of a consecrated, Spirit-filled life. As Satan bombards this world with false doctrines and religious deceptions of every kind, the burden of keeping the church on the right course will continue to fall where it has always fallen, upon Bible-trained men of God. His ministry was powerful, strong, and uncompromising., He deeply ap- preciated the Word of God, and he was an intense Crusader for righteousness and truth. Bro. Willoughby was born April 1, 1945, and was called home to be with the Lord on November 17, 1973. He graduated from Harry E. Wood High School and was given a scholarship to Purdue University. After attending the university for one year, the call of God became so strong in his life that he felt he could no longer continue in secular education. It was then that he chose to attend Western Apostolic Bible College and graduated three years later with high honors. After graduating from Bible School, he was a strong and loyal supporter of the College. On many different occasions, he expressed his appreciation for what he gained at Bible College. Here is an excerpt from one of his letters to the school dated February 8, 1971: I want you to know that I certainly do appreciate the way that Bible College helped me. The classes were informative. The chapel services were encouraging. The fellowship was great. The prayer meetings and consecration services were unforgettable. I will always be thankful for all of the faculty that gave of themselves to help me and my classmates. ldeeply ap- preciate the sacrifice that they've made over the years to the school, and I also thank God for their faithfulness in God's cause. David Willoughby entered the union of marriage with Elaine Reams on April 25, 1970. To this fine couple was born a daughter, Andrea Ruth, on February 28, 1972. In the few short years that he ministered, Brother Willoughby left a deep spiritual impact on all who heard him. Though his voice is stilled, the effects of his ministry will live on in the lives who have been so impressively touched through his God-given ministry. The United Pentecostal Church International has been strengthened because of the effects of this man's life. We have been brought closer to God through our chapel, jubilee, and revival services. I would like to give special recognition and thanks to Joe Carrillo, Vice-President, and Wendy Dugas, Secretary-Treasurer, for all their help and support. Many times their hard work goes unnoticed, but without it, things would not have been nearly as ef- ficient as they were. I would also like to thank all of those involved in the Student Council as well as the High School Student Body officers for their cooperation and contribution in making this an outstanding school year. Last of all, I would like to thank all of the faculty for their fine teaching and leader- ship in showing us the right direction. I'm glad to know that in this wicked age there is a group of young people that love God and want to learn more about His Word and His will. After all, that is what WABC is all about. The New Chain Reference Bible is the 'Where' to find the fullest spiritual truths and to gain the most complete knowledge of the Bible in the easiest way. Dr. Edw. L. R. Elson. For the preacher, teacher and student of the Bible, it is unsurpassed. Dr. Charles E. Fuller, Director, Old Fashioned Revival Hour Broadcast: I wish every preacher and teacher of the Word had a copy of this most usable and loizical reference work. Dr. Harold J.
