CLASS O 1971 WEST’LYAN Westerly High School Westerly, Rhode Island DEDICATION MISS E. GERTRUDE KINGSLEY Brown University, B.A. Head of English Department (Retired) tou came to us and you gave us your life; Then you left it and us behind. You were a teacher of the heart And a lady in manner and mind. Teacher, you are a piece of us. We knew you the first flay we started to learn: W e know you in travel and we know you in wait; We’ll know you the last day we breathe. You took us from one plus one equals two. To faulty expressions and more: Three times and it's yours for life.” “Three times and it’s yours for life.” Three times and you’re ours for life. in. fl. 4 IN APPRECIATION SALVATORE J. AUGERI Class Advisor ’68-’69 LIFE! W hat a powerful word With had points, and With good points. From day to day From night to night From morn to morn. We face Life! There is a man in our presence W ho is working up to his ability To help us — Conquer our had points, and increase our good points. He gives suggestions and conclusions He says No! He says yes. 11c is a dedicated man of all sincerity He is our FRI END! And so, the class of seventy-one Would like to extend to him Our most sincere appreciation For being so concerned with us and with our future And doing his best to prepare us to understand that powerful four letter word LIFE! e. c. 5 GKRALD M. DUNN Class of 1971: Today, more than ever, it is expected that men will hold different aims and ideas and that such aims and ideas will sometimes clash. As future citizens, you have the right and even the duty to object to what you feel is wrong. But in presenting your criticism, you must apply strong efforts so designed to remedy what you criticized. We know that professional training is not necessary to comfort the sorrowfid, to give hope to the discouraged, or to provide a reason for living to those who have all hut lost it. Many of our nation's problems have been solved through love ami understanding. Let your actions of the future he the true acid test of your commitment to the dignity of man. Sincerely, Gerald M. Dunn, Principal Members of the Class of 1971 In your high school years you have been given the opportunity to gain tin- knowledge and wisdom necessary for a successful beginning of your adult life. Each of you lias received equally the best of the experience of'teachers skilled in imparting to youth the learnings necessary to success. The degree to which you accepted them and, particularly, the degree to which you will see them, will determine your success in the future. 1 am confident that each of you will make the proper use of your knowledge and wisdom so that you will have a rewarding and stimulating life. One of the most important decisions of the year was electing our class officers, who were Mark Dickmann, President; Bo!i Carson, Vice-President: Bose Marie Gingerella, Treasurer; Elizabeth Gervasini, Secretary; and Debbie Cillino, Social Chairman. Opening the lines of communication to the administration were Barbara laeoi, Kathy Dunn. Joe Mooscy, and John DiGangi on the Student Council. Maneuvering the ball down the soccer field were James Gray, Joe Tenuta, Mark Clark. Walt Capizzano, Kevin Brennan, Billy John Terranoya, Rich Pellegrino, Tom Burns, and James Turano. Fighting competitive teams in football were John Callahan, John DiGangi, Tom Wilkinson, Wayne Morgan, Jim Scanlon, John Murphy, Carl McKenzie, Gary Behan, Leo Manfred, Sam Gingerella, Jay Ribciro, John Williamson, Doug Crandall, Louis Gingerella, Ed Greene, Tom Valliere, Joe Mooscy, Dan Dinoto, Mike Gingerella, and Jean- Paul Nicol. In basketball our victorious team was aided by Boh Carson, Dave Vctelino, George Gouvin, Jay laeoi, Lou Laudone, Wayne Morgan, Peter Cardinal, and Kenny Chicoria. The spring try-outs for chcerlcading led to the selection of Donna DeGroff, Jean Engle, Karen Carlson, and Doris Hoelck as co-captain. Our Sophomore Hop went round and round with the theme “On a Carousel.” The gym was appropriately decorated in yellow, orange and pink, and on the carousel stood our radiant queen, Rhonda Zanella, surrounded by her court: Barbara laeoi, Patty Gallo, Jean Ciocea, Debbie Cillino, Francine Langley, and Cheryl Weston. Beginning their high school track careers were Ken Olsen, A1 DiOrio, Kevin Brennan, John Murphey, Frank Tate, James Martell, Jim Scanlon, Scott McKenzie, Tom Valliere, Mark Dickmann, John Williamson, Dan Dinoto, Kurt Lenzen, and John DiGangi. That years Golf learn included Boh Carson, George Gouvin, and Bill White. To help support them, Lynne Scionti became a Cheerleader. Summer with all its blessings came and went. Again we found ourselves in the halls of Westerly High, hut this time we were the all-mighty SENIORS! He was our man and we were his team. Every day around 3:30, we d see that old “Delta 88” come bombing down Bellevue Avenue with fumes spewing out' of the exhaust pipe. Then he’d emerge with those arms flailing like a windmill, and his voice would get louder and LOUDER and LOUDfR. “RUN YOU DOGS, RUN! RUN TILL YA DROP! DON’T CHEAT. HEY! I SEE YA CHEATIN’; YOU AIN’T GONNA Vi IN THAT WAY!” And then we’d be going contact and he’d yell, “Marry the man, he ain t your friend now! Hit him and marry im!” Always Henry. Henry'd pull the chains for the games: Henry’ll take guys to the doctor; Henry’d go pick up the tape for us; Henry’ll give us medical advice for little hurts land that advice was sometimes more reliable than that of any M. I).). A more dedicated individual would he hard to find. For his devotion and out of our appreciation for it, we, the football players of the Class of 1971, dedicate this page.
