CLASS HISTORY Three years ago, we the Class of 1970, timidly entered Westerly High School, determined to make the next three years both fun and rewarding. First, we elected our class officers — Keith Carlson, President; Mickey Severns, Vice-President; Pattie Burgie, Secretary-Treasurer; and Donna Ventilato, Social Chairman. To help our newly-elected class officers we elected Ruth Cushing, Almon Copley, Harry Stillman, and Mike Ryan to the Student Council. To illustrate our class's athletic abilities, Dave Toth, LouToscano, Frank Crandall, and Joe Felicetti helped our football team on to victory in the annual Thanksgiving Day game against Stonington High School. In basketball, Scott Beattie, Keith Carlson, Gene Bozek and A1 Savage made the basketball team, managed by Mickey Lavoie and John Ahr. Ace Barber, Rick Booth, Joe Colosi and Dave Napier joined forces with the soccer team. Our sophomore hop, entitled It Happens Every Spring”, was held on May 17. Surrounding our queen, Cindy Morgan, was her court composed of Elaine Perra, Anne Marie Celico, Donna DiGangi, Anne Conklin, Maureen Moosey, and Annetta Broom. The summer passed all too quickly and once again September arrived as we entered school with a new-found confidence. Junior class officers were Louis Toscano, President; Frank Crandall, Vice-President; Pattie Burgie, Secretary; Dean Sisson, Treasurer; and Elaine Perra, Social Chairman. To the Student Council we elected Debbie Adams, Harry Stillman, Almon Copley, and Dexter Simmons. Once again, our boys excelled in sports. Pat Martin, A1 DePlacido, and Paul Cryan were added to the football team. This year, Ace Barber, Rick Booth, and Keith Avery stood with the soccer team against its many opponents. As a result of the cheering tryouts, Lorraine Cofone, Debbie Adams, and Debbie Scionti cheered our teams to victory, with Celia Gomes as Co-Captain. The highlight of the year was our Junior Prom, April in Paris”. Our beautiful queen, Joyce Parnigoni, was attended by her charming court, Connie DeSantis, Maureen Moosey, Cindy King, Carol DeSimone, Debbie Adams and Anne Conklin. Once again we entered the halls of WHS to begin our final year, and elected Louis Toscano, President; Mike Ryan, Vice-President; Pattie Burgie, Secretary; Ruth Cushing, Treasurer; and Celia Gomes, Social Chairman. This year marked the last season of football for the Seniors at Westerly High. Under Co-Captains Frank Crandall, Dave Toth, and A1 Savage, Lou Toscano, Paul Cryan, Jeff Smithe, Joe Felicetti, Harry Stillman, Mickey Severns, Pat Martin, Nick Gencarella, and Rick Booth, played spirituously and we were all proud of them. The time left in our high school years is scarce. Exchanging class pictures, we now look closely at friends made through all our years in school. We mail in college applications and anxiously await affirmative answers. Our Senior Prom will soon be here and then Senior Week will follow in June. Then on that long-awaited day, we will receive our diplomas and bid each other farewell. Three long-short years have passed. Tomorrow marks a new beginning but today shall never be forgotten.

These past twelve years, and especially those spent at Westerly High School, will be a part of us for many years to come. We have spent them preparing ourselves and equipping our minds with the ideals for adulthood, that will remain with us throughout our lives. Our faculty is greatly responsible for this preparation and should be given much of the credit. They have done their jobs well in teaching us to cope with the problems of today and not of yesterday. The Class of 1970 thanks them for their concern and hopes that they will be as proud of us as we are thankful to them. LOUIS M.
