ENDICOTT DEDICATION During our years at Westerly High School, you, Miss Endicott, have been one of the greatest contributors to our overall educational development. You have not only instructed us in basic principles, but you have also given us a broader conception of our future life—its challenges and its problems. Because of your superior assistance to us and your outstanding loyalty to our school throughout the past 37 years, We, the Class of 1964, wish to express our deep gratitude and esteem. 3 DR. W. CHRIS HEISLER Superintendent of Schools TO CLASS OF 1964: Graduation to many of you means freedom—freedom from the close supervision of your high school teachers and parents—freedom to complete your fulfillment as an adult—vocationally, socially, spiritually. But unless you evolve a moral code which encompasses support of law and order, and unless you live by your code, you are betraying yourself and your country. You are betraying your fellowman when you let him think that you will let him behave as he wishes without regard for society or other individuals. The time has arrived for you to complete, and live by, a moral and ethical code which will mark you as a mature person. As an adult in a democracy you carry the responsibility for helping to maintain law and order to the same degree that you share the rights and privileges of our way of life. Now is the time to replace school boy notions of not squealing with a private dedication to the promotion of personal safety and justice for all. CLASS OF 1964: As you graduate from that great American institution, the public high school, your responsibilty as an American should be foremost in your thoughts and actions. Wise and clear thinking on your part, as it relates to the solution of the problems so vital to the very survival of our nation, can be your important contribution in making our country the greatest in the world. In the words of our late and beloved President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who gave his life for his country, Ask not what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country.” Good luck and best wishes to each of you. Now we are adults entering a highly competitive world that is full of challenges, work, and responsibilities. Through the training we have obtained at Westerly High School, we can enter this world confidently because we have been prepared to go on to higher learning or to enter the working field. Those who have prepared us deserve many thanks and high praise. These include the school administrators, the taxpayers of the Town of Westerly, and our parents. But most of our praise should go to our teachers. Without their efforts and understanding, our years here would have been meaningless. We wish to thank you, our teachers, for everything. Because of your efforts, we will dedicate ourselves to becoming intelligent citizens and proud alumni of Westerly High School. CROSS COUNTRY Sam Fusaro Mr. Skiffington Coach Steve Benson One of the oldest forms of athletic competition is cross country. The first official cross country meet was held at the Greek Olympic games almost three thousand years ago. Today at Westerly High School cross country is still quite popular. This sport places a great responsibility on the individual to excel; it requires much practice. The team practiced often and put forth tremendous effort. Although the scores of the meets were close, they lost all the games. Everything was not lost, however, since the team members further developed their responsibility and appreciation of true sportsmanship.
