IN APPRECIATICN MRS. ADA STEDMAN The Class of '58 wishes to extend a most grateful and heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Stedman for her able assistance and untiring efforts in helping us prepare our yearbook. Her faith- ful attendance at every meeting was invaluable, in that we always had someone to look to for guidance and encourage- ment. Whenever we were depressed and felt that we were making no progress, Mrs. Stedman always oEered a friendly word of assurance. Words alone cannot suffice to express our gratitude. Years from now, however, upon thumbing through the pages of this yearbook, we shall see Mrs. Stedman's picture, and recall her inspiring words and smiling face.

DEDICATION To the three people who have been our beacons, our guiding lights, through our years at Westerly High School, we, the class of 1958, dedicate our yearbook, the DRIFTWOOD, as an expression of appreciation for their never-failing kind- ness and help. We hope that the DRIFTWOOD may, in some measure, show the gratitude and admiration we hold for: MISS HELENA DUNN MR. DONALD LOVE MISS JOSEPHINE GERNSHEIMER

MR. LAWRENCE MCGUIRE Superintendent PRINCIPAL'S ADDRESS SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE In your high school years you have had the opportunity to gain the knowledge and wisdom necessary for a successful beginning in your adult life. Each of you has received equally the best of the experience of teachers skilled in imparting to youth the learnings necessary to success. The degree to which you accepted them and, particularly, the degree to which you will use them, will determine your success in the future. It is my fondest hope that each of you will use to the fullest extent the wisdom which can come from the knowledge you have received in your high school years, and that, as a result, each of you will know only happiness and success in the years to come. Some of you will probably remember that when you young men and women entered high school three years ago I went over with you the benefits that you could expect to derive from your three years of high school training. Now that your days in high school are drawing to a close, I think it might be wise for you to take an inventory by asking yourself if you did get out of your stay here all that you expected to get. Ask yourselves the following questions: 1. Did I look for the best in my teachers and classmates? 2. Did I look for the best in the program and rules? 3. Did I do my utmost to develop my talents and abilities? 4. Did I learn to get along with other people? 5. Am I a better citizen of my community as a result? If you can answer yes to all of these questions, then I believe that you are just finishing three of the most profitable years in your life, and that you may expect many more and even better ones in the future. If your answer is no to any one of these questions, then remember that it is never too late to improve yourselves. The sooner you get started, the better. Good luck and best wishes to each of you. MR. HOLLICE STEVENS Principal
