Fellow Classmates, Teachers, Parents, and Friends: Realizing the true meaning of our Commencement activities, we turn back to recall the three years we have enjoyed so much here at Westerly High School. Regretfully we do this. It puts behind us the joy and excitement of our high school career, and makes us realize with startling clarity the necessity of hard work in the future. Armed with our diplomas, we shall take our places in society. Some of us will go on to future learning, others to their intended careers, but whatever our lot in life, we shall endeavor to assume our responsibilities with hope and courage. The road before us is not easy. It is a long, hard, and rough way. There will be much less play from now ong so we must End recreation in our work. Once this aim is accomplished, success is assured. Ever mindful of the privilege that has been ours to receive such a fine high school education, we gratefully thank those people whose combined efforts made our gradua- tion possible - the taxpayers of Westerly, who contributed the basic means for the preparation for our future life. We express deep gratitude to the teachers, whose instruction and guidance have delivered us safely to the threshold of society. To our principal, Mr. Stevens, and to our class advisors, Miss Gernsheimer, Miss Dunn, and Mr. Love, we give heart-felt thanks for a job well done. It was through their untiring efforts that we successfully weathered the perils and hazards of high school. We shall never forget them. Our three wonderful years at Westerly High School are nearing completion. Each one of us will go on his separate way. Whatever your undertaking in life, may I wish every member of the class of 1958 the best of luck in the years to come.
