Seniors: LAWRENCE McGUIRE Superintendent For you. Commencement means embarking on a new career, an unknown career, but one which can mean great joy in life to you, and one which will carry you through the greatest decades of the history of America. Though the words are trite, you stand on the threshold of an entirely new life. But these words are not meaningless to you; they should have a special significance. You, as an individual, and as a class, have the greatest potential, the best opportunity any group, any individual ever had. I need not tarry over the future of America in the decades to come, but 1 must and shall call on every one of you to be leaders in the America of tomorrow. 1 know every one of you, by name and ability. And there is not one of you who does not have the ability to be a great leader. None of you has yet been tested to the full limit of your abilities. Each of you must go on, beyond the areas of the school to learn what your abilities are, and to use those abilities, for your greater happiness and the greater glory of America. All of you, each of you, has it in him to be three times the person he thinks he can be. I know. Do it. For me, this Commencement means the scattering of friends who have come to mean much to me. HOLLICE L. STEVENS Principal Seniors: My congratulations to the graduates of 1957 for having reached the goal for which you have been striving for the past three years. I hope that as you leave this school that it will be with a feeling of pride in the school and with fond remember-ances of the many pleasant experiences that you have had here and of the friendships you have made here. Your teachers and I appreciate very much your many contributions to the morale of the school, your willingness to work harmoniously with teachers and fellow-students and the leadership which you have taken in many school activities. It will be difficult for us to forget the scholastic success of this class as well as the outstanding contributions which your members have made to athletics and other extracurricular activities. I trust that as a result of your stay here at Westerly High School that you are now willing and ready to face the problems of life and that you have gained an ability to solve these problems.
