The Senior Year Book — 1955 Class Song FAREWELL TO WESTERLY (Tune: Swansea Town) Oh, Farewell to you, our Westerly, ten thousand times a-dieu! Although the time has come to leave we know that we’ll miss you. We will hold you in our memories, and tho wfe may be far away, We’ll always treasure in our hearts, our graduation day. Refrain Our high school years have quickly passed, we have finally reached our goal, But still we live in hopes to see dear Westerly forever more. By MARGARET MANDELLA PHYLLIS KENYON Class Poem We leave the beloved halls of learning, The shadowed corridors no more to roam; But our thoughts will often wander back To flit amid the buzz and chatter of posterity. A golden path is rolling out ahead We see it bright, unspotted; And before we step upon that road, We take a glance in retrospect. This backward look will afford us in the future Many a pleasant reverie Laughing tireless scamps were we, What cared we for the world? Now we go to face that world; Men and women about to tread upon a winding maze; And in our journeying on the Road of Life There may one day flicker before us, the memory of our high schooi days. The Senior Year Book — 1955 President’s Address Classmates, teachers, and friends: Although the class of 1955 is about to leave Ward Senior High, I am sure we shall all carry many pleasant memories of our joyous days here. It hardly seems possible that three short years ago we entered the school, green sophomores. Look at us now, big Seniors! Many of us are sorry we have to leave. Remember how thrilling it was, girls, to wait in wild anticipation for the certain someone to ask you to the Junior or Senior Prom? What a wonderful evening it was, glittering gowns, dreamy music and all the trimmings that go with such a festive occasion! The boys that could not, or did not attend any of these festivities, do not know what they have missed, as this is an essential part of school activity. Our high school careers are now about to come to a close. We have been supplied with the proper tools, so let’s use them to their fullest advantage. We must prove to our parents, teachers, and townspeople that they have not labored and sacrificed in vain. Whether we choose to further our education or not, we have built the foundation of whatever career we choose. We now step over the threshold of high school, out into the big wide world which will swallow us. Many will continue their education; many will find jobs and go to work. Uncle Sam needs men and they must be young, strong, and wise. These will be graduates of high school. Some of our fellow classmates are already in the armed services of our country. Good luck, fellows, and “God be with you!” We must never forget our wonderful class adviser. Miss Gernsheimer. She has not only been a great adviser, but a wonderful friend and helper. Such a wonderful person will always be highly considered. This year of 1955, we welcome with great pride, the coach of the R. I. Championship Basketball Team, John Stellitano. He has been an excellent coach and has taken W. H. S. by storm with his brown eyes and curly hair. Congratulations to Coach Stellitano and the team! We must not forget our faculty, which has prepared us for the long struggle ahead. They have had many trying times, but everything seems to turn out for the better. We thank you all for your understanding and the help you have so generously given us. The class of ’55 leaves W. H. S. in the hands of ’56. May you do your best to keep the school the best ever! Until we meet again, to each and every member of the class of ’55, a sincere wish for the best of luck in all your future undertakings. JAMES SMITH, President, Class of '55 8 ) -
