Volleyball Girls Serve For Westchester inh a Volleyball is a hard-driving, fight- ing game that commands highly developed individual and team skills. This year’s team was composed of twelve dedicated Varsity girls and twenty-three underclassmen. Miss Gracie Alderete predicted a winning season and named the Spring Woods Tournament and the McCollum Tour- nament in San Antonio as the two big contests before the start of dis- trict play. ahi Viki Krueger (32) sets to Sally Hicks in the Spring Woods Tour- nament. With the backing of team mascots, Tom Petty and Bob Reese, the cheerleaders performed a necessary duty: that of unifying a school through spirit. They managed to bring Westchester to the pinnacle of its spirit performance through the sale of balloons, the initiation of the spark plug award, and the posting of spirit posters. Mrs. Résie Lewis, newly appointed cheerleader sponsor, brought with her fresh spirit-boosting ideas. Together they achieved a climax of that “orange and white spirit.” Sue And Charley

Golfers Prove To Be Swingers Of WHS The fourteen members of the golf team put in long hours after school and on the weekends to carry on a winning tradition at Westchester. Play opened March 1 and 2 at the Northeast Tour- nament in San Antonio where the team met with rough com- petition. Coach Ronnie Laurence entered the golfers in eight tour- neys this year. With five return- ing lettermen, they came out high in district play, which be- gan in mid April. Dave Patterson and Elroy Marti were cited as the two stand-outs in golf.
