Memorial Westchester faced Memorial for the first district battle of the season. After a seven game winning streak, the Cats lost to the Mustangs only in the fourth quarter, 66-49. The Cats held through the third period with the score 41-39, but Memorial proved too much and pulled away in the fourth. Wil Terry sank 14 for Westchester, while Gary Trentham and Steve Horner both added 9. The second encounter with the Ponies was February 10 on their court. By this time, state-ranked Me- morial was going strong in district and pulled over a 94-50 win. Gary Trentham managed to total 11 points, while Steve Horner was one point behind him with 10. Gary Trentham eludes the outstretched arms of a North Shore player. Mark Hall (55), stretches on a rebound with Spring Branch.

Northeast Invitational Tourney The Cats traveled to San Antonio to place third in the Northeast Invitational Tournament. The contest of skill swung in Westchester’s favor from the start when they defeated San Antonio Mar- shall and San Antonio Edison to advance to semi-finals. The WHS dribblers lost to state-ranked San Antonio Highlands but in the competition for third place, WHS won over San Antonio MacArthur to ob- tain the crown. Fort Worth Optimist Tourney With their best foot forward, the West- chester basketball men were the “con- querors of the court” in playing Fort | Worth Carter and Western Hills. ee 190 Steve Horner, (42) jumps above Spring Wood’s defenders for another two points. Conroe The Westchester Wildcats boasted their first district win with the defeat of the Conroe Tigers 62-48. Tom Bailey scoring 21 points, and Gary. Trentham with 16 were the top scorers that helped in handing Conroe their second district loss. On January 30 the Orange and White met the Tigers in a game that again ended in defeat for Conroe by a tremendous count of 83-60. Along with Steve Horner, who racked up 16 points. Tom Bailey was the “tops in points” for the evening with 24.
