re. cea Sm iia pate a) And Number A very obvious fact around Westchester is the ‘popu- ‘ lation explosion.’ Beginning in 1967 Westchester opened its doors to 1,860 students. Now, two years later, West- chester boasts of its increase to 2,884 pupils. This over- crowding becomes very obvious around 3:30, when it seems most of the school is trying to get through the same escape-hatch—the Snack Bar door. Of course, this is a very good way to become close friends with a person. Open slide rules, trombone cases, dirty gym suits and socks provide perils for the daring person who decides to brave this route. For the less nervy person there is ‘always an alternate escape plan—the arches. But this person misses half the fun of WHS—meeting its

But Still A Place For Fun Despite the changing conditions, WHS developed a vibrant and happy atmosphere, achieved through its student body. The fun began with Homecoming Week, the time all Senior boys look forward to and administrators greet with Excedrin bottles and free passes to Saturday sessions. Wood was “‘found’’ in the strangest places, which began a pile ending in what ’ definitely was the best, and most trouble free bonfire in the history of the school. The Senior girls also participated in the festivities by dragging their weary bodies out of a warm bed to create a masterpiece sculptured in toilet paper in a football player’s trees. Soon after foot- ball season ended, Senior Carnival began. It will never end—the paint still lingers from the body painting booth and the water still remains waiting for another victim to be thrown in. The theme was Tucson—the Wild West—which was quite fitting. Instead of bounty hunters, the “wanted” were pursued by a Senior boy with a glint of mud in his eye. The Seniors were not the only ones who chased after the unsuspecting students. For awhile, money-hungry Juniors with carnation stains between their teeth seemed to be lurking behind every locker bank. Although a place of higher learning, Westchester also achieved the standard of a place where fun could always be found.
