We the faculty, and We The students have formed a close relationship by working together, based upon friendly guidance and a willingness to learn. The co-ordination of individual ideas and interests have made our clubs and activities proof of This statement. We, The Annual Staff of FLIGHT '53, proudly dedicate This book to Miss Harriet Baker and to Mr. John Reilly, whose skill and devotion are amply displayed on These pages. it TW We, The students ot West- chester High School, owe a great deal to Mrs. Horn for her constant efforts to work constructively with us, and to help us to achieve dis- tinction in each activity. 2 CourTesy is conTagious is The moTTo seen on The door of Mr. Fred Tanner, boys' vice principal. Super- vising boys aThleTics is one of Mr. Tanner's many jobs. He makes sure we are al- ways vvell-represenTed- in our league and ThaT our Teams are well scheduled and equipped. No wheel Turns vviThouT The consenT of Mrs. Florence Young, our girls' vice principal. Her OK places evenTs on The calendar, and her parTicular inTeresT is The Girls League. All of us know her as a real friend. ja! Q l 1 A016071-og, Mrs. Neva Herndon is our head counselor who Tailors the master program to fit the personnel of the school. Miss Phyllis Chapman, registrar, has the busy iob of checking attendance. Remember, if you plan to go to the beach, be sure Miss Chapman is looking the other vvay! This happy group makes the counselor's office a pleasant place to bring anything from personal to programming problems. Why, even future careers are plotted herel Seated around the table are Diane Smith, secretary to Mrs. Hern- don, Jim Heusdens and Henry Safer, grade advisors, Jane Herndon, head counselor, and Willa Jewett, Shirley Taylor, Elizabeth Steinauer, and Bill Rankind, grade advisors. Jw It's no secret that the big wheels wouldn't roll very fast or very far without the-efficient services of this cheerful lineup: Elizabeth McKeovvn, Rosemary Moffett, Bonnie Miles, Diane Smith, Jeanne Williams, Mildred Schu- macher, Euna Edwards, Betty Faulkner, Maiella Frye, and Colleen Morrical. Mrs. Betty Faulkner, business man- ager of the Westchester Student Body, is responsible for all our finances, down to the last penny. Miss Elizabeth McKeown is secretary to Mrs. Horn, and chief of the clerical f staff. Mrs. Rosemary Moffatt orders and processes all the books. Think how many thousands there are. By the way, how about checking with her about that lost book? f :zz 2 -- 'e. .20fg.,,:.'. wi, Z X747 ll, T l ,if If ', We, The Cavaliers and Nobles, would f 9 like To express our final Thanks To Those ,' Teachers and counselors who have 1 ,l guided us Through our years aT Wesf- 'I' A V' QQ' chesTer. Came The day when The girls wore Their firsT lipstick, and The fellows began combing Their hair. Then came dances and daTes, and we found we were no longer liTTle children. We had responsibilifies To face, and we faced Them. Now we're looking forward To Three wonderful years in high school, we're ready for Those years of hard work-and a loT of fun. Mike Pollock, first string quarterback, broke his leg early in the season, and this accident proved a great handicap to the team. Although we didn't often score, we held the ball in our opponents' territory long enough to build respect for our fighting qualities and spirit. Altogether, having reached sixth place, we feel that our debut into league play shows promise for many successful seasons to come. The boys' most out- standing characteristics were fine spirit and sportsmanship, even in the games which were lost, proving what a fine aggregation they were. Coach Bill Young who built up the team and ran it through its paces, engineered its victories with his fine coaching and strategy. Some of the most outstanding men will be changing over to varsity in the fall, which should mean a victorious season for Westchester. LEFT TO RIGHT: L, Cudney, D. Cudney, J. Scott, B. Hanson, B.
