NX ga ' .dl 5' X , -f Wane me We the senior class of 1953 wrll soon graduate from four years of hugh school but the memorles of those norsy study halls, long range homework assrgnments and wonder ful Proms w1ll never leave us As we each recene our dlploma we mrght begm to thlnk over the accomplrshments joys and sorrows of those years Remember as freshmen how we entered a blt bewlldered and afrald of those all 1m portant sen1ors9 After a few months, how ever we became accustomed to rooms and teachers and soon felt at home In fact two brave members of our class udy Frtzpatrrck and Sue Roush entered a talent show and sanv beautlfully We were very proud when Mary Ann Perottl became captam of the twrrlers, but lxttle drd we know she was to be for the next three years The girls jomed the G A A and the boys went out for varlous sports especlally soccer where they out numbered each of the other classes After a short summer vacatron we re turned as sophomores no longer scorned as freshman Advrsed by Mrs Ostrander and Mr Vaserllew we organrzed, electmg Vrn cent Canevarr Presrdent, erome Pasquall Vxce Presrdent Laura Staton, Secretary and erry Turner, Treasurer The gurls fmrshed up therr sports year by attendmg the annual G A A banquet while the boys took the1r places on the umor Varsity basketball squad cross country and track teams and the soccer field Pmky Canevarr was declared the most valuable player on the soccer team and was awarded a trophy for hrs achrevement We also were fortunate that year to have three members of our class voted cheer leaders-Carol VIIUCCI oe Gennarr and udy Frtzpatrlck A Natronal Typing Contest was held for sophomores lumors and senrors and we felt very lmportant when Clyde Payne won Trme passed qulckly as usual and rn 1951 we were known as junlors We were headed by Vlncent Canevarr Presrdent Alden Gray V1ce President Laura Staton Secretary and erry Turner Treasurer On the cheermg squad Carol Vrtuccr was elected for the sec ond time and oan Maglrarr was a newcomer The need for hnancral ard was evident as the unlor Prom came closer and closer So Wrggs and the Cabbage Patch and the usual cake sales whrch netted enough to boost our bank account Garden In The Rain became a very pop ular phrase and no wonder, rt was the theme of our Prom a smash success held 1n Wm- throp Hall on May 17 The Honor Soclety ceremony was rn April and we were thrrlled when flfteen members of our class were rncluded the largest rn ductron rn the SOCICIY s hrstory About the same trme Gertrude Romeo was presented wrth a S25 war bond for wmmng an essay contest on the hrstory of Westbury anet Settlocker was plcked for Gxrl s State and erome Pasquall for Boys State, an honor grven to one boy and gurl each year who has excelled as an all round student The year drew to a close wrth a bang the carpenters certamly were nolsy as they erect ed a new sectron to the school 0 7 3 . 1 . . , - . . - . ., J ., , ' , - J ' , . Social functions such as the Junior Prom, Christmas Dance, Senior Ball, and Dedication were held in the gym besides the usual sport activities. The President, First Vice-President, and Treasurer are elected by a school-wide election in the spring. This election climaxes a month of big campaigning and speeches in an assembly program.
