“Where’s the food?” “Everyone flips for gym.” Preparing the way for college, the college course provides pupils with the subjects necessary for successful entry into college. A wide range is offered to adequately supply this need. Each student is required to take four years of English. Basic skills of spelling, vocabulary, and grammar, in addition to creative writing and literature, are emphasized. Special courses are available in Speech, Short Story, Creative Writ- ing, Contemporary American Drama, and other areas. The history department offers various courses to provide students with a balanced background in histoiy. The courses include ancient and medieval, modern European, World, and United States histories, geography, World Af- fairs, and Problems of Democracy. College-bound students are required to take a foreign language. French, Latin, and Spanish are offered this year. French and Latin have four different levels; Spanish, the second-year level. Providing students with the background neces- sary for further education beyond high school in the field of mathematics, the math department offers four course areas, algebra I, geometry, alge- bra II, and Senior Math. Five study areas, biology, earth science, chemis- try, physics, and advanced biology, are available to the college prep students. Each provides an opportunity for the pupil to investigate funda- mental principles of science. Creative art in the making.” 29
