The tirst tew meetings we were pretty green on the subject. We had great tun at Bates College on November 4, participating in panel discussions, and again at Bowdoin on December IO, when we were observers at the Bowdoin League Debates. We learned a lot and also met some ot the students we would be competing against later in the year. The most important event in any debaters mind is the Annual Bates League schedu ed in March. To participate talres a lot ot practice and preparation. The allf day tournament at South Portland is very good practice. The group ot eight that toolc oart in this tournament on February I9, with 22 other schools, were quite well-ac' quainted with debating by then. At this tournament Robert Kelly was named best spealrer in bath his debates, and Sandra Peters and Carleton Mains were named once each. As the Blue and White goes to press, we are teverishly worlcing on last-minute preparations tor the Bates League. Our varsity team includes Sandra Peters and farleton Mains, attirrnativet Robert Kelly and Kathleen Morabito, negative. Ronald foie and John Chamard are aiternates.
