The sheet metal shop opened when the class ot '42 entered the high school, and under the skilled instruction ot Mr. Burnham, has made a vast improvement in our industrial course. This shop has been rearranged, two ot the improvements being the installation ot new benches, made by the boys, and a better lighting system. The les- sons include the drawing of patterns and the construction ot tool chests, pans and vari- ous other articles ot tin. They have just completed a tiling cabinet tor the Bridge Street Grammar School. Mr. Ames, who has replaced Mr. Alden as head ot the industrial department, is instructing the proceedings in the patterns and wood-working shops. Here patterns are developed tor work which is later completed in the machine shop. The well equipped wood working shop makes possible the building and construction ot such work as cedar chests desks anything that the students desire to build tor their own individual use at home This report includes only a tew of the many helptul instructions wnich are being given every day in our modern industria department As a result men and boys are Obtaining skill in coordination between hand and mind which will later be used in secur ing their livelihood and providing relaxation as they develop their hobbies I - . . . . ,, . , . . . , r ff iix X71-1RRll.I., Cl.ll-'I-'Ukll Kx11.ii'i'. Our new instructor in orchestra and glee club, Miss Marion Foster, has guided us to marked improvement, as was proved in the high school program in conjunction with the one-act play, the orchestras contribution at the assembly play, and several other appearances. Evidence of considerable advance in quality in the work of the band under Nlr Krnest Silva was displayed when the group appeared at the county teachers convention We certainly feel that the members deserve the new uniforms which the school is buying for them Won t they appear well at ball games? The highlight of the musical year was the Gorham Westbrook Music festival offered by combined glee clubs orchestras and when Gorham acted as host on April lOth We surely appreciate the instruction which these directors have given us Our year has been most successful '-a X cr nvl I XXX! lllRlXL I IX XIPRI-ll bvv y 1 1 v rx lxllllXllI!
