After sponsoring Freshman Orientation in the Fall, the Jay Dees serve as official hostesses for the college, act as liaison between students and the administration, as well as direct many projects of their own. Under the able leadership of their oilicers, President, Lindy Burr, Vice-President, Jean Taylor, Secretary-Treasurer, Daryl Geer, and their advisor, Dean Bibber, these girls serve to exemplify the spirit of the Westbrook Way. The governing body of Westbrook is the Student Council. Its membership consists of one representative and an alternate from each of the freshman dorms, each senior resident house, and from the day student group. In addition to its regular functions, the Student Council sponsored a student government confer- ence in November attended by representatives of seven other New England and New York junior colleges. Out of the conference came the idea of an honor system here at Westbrook. This proposal is now under consideration by the council. Like any other authoritative group the council is concerned with the upholding of all oilicial rules of the college. Co-operating with the administration they work for a beneficial student-faculty relationship. Ofiicers were as follows: jean Kwok, Presidentg Marthalie Johnston, Vice- Presidentg Susan Lancaster, Secretaryg and Susan Powers, Treasurer.

The dramatic club at Westbrook first assumed its name, The Masque and Candle, in 1940 and its symbolism still makes the club's name appropriate today. The play's the thingf said Hamlet, wherein I'll catch the conscience of the kingf' Thus does the high craft of the theater seek in both comedy and tragedy to reveal the truth. The Masque and Candle offers opportunity to the student to experiment with this craft in all its various forms - acting, staging, production, and make up. Dramatic coach this year has been Mr. Steven Kardaleff assisted by the club oliicers, Maryeileen Callahan, , President, Barbara Eklund, Vice-President, Suzanne Reardon, Secretary, Elizabeth Oshry, Treasurer. The first production of the year was John Millington Synge's one-act poetic tragedy, Riders to the Seaf' The major spring production was Thurber's Carnival. V V . ' ' li ii 1 'Tr .'
