a message from the class president CLASS OFFICERS President Sibyl Nye When the Class of 1964 entered Westbrook junior College, we were all aware of the many challenges that lay ahead. Now the future that was then a far horizon is close upon us. The late President Kennedy once pointed out the wisdom of an ancient Chinese proverb: A jour- ney of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. In the journey of our lifetime we have taken that step. We are only now beginning to realize and more fully appreciate the true meaning of college life. The ultimate measure of this meaning will be demonstrated by the way in which we put to use what we have found at Westbrook. Our experiences have made us what we are. What we accomplish in the future depends upon the foundations we have laid. Upon graduation the prepara- tions of the past will end and the opportunities of the future begin. Perhaps no generation of Americans has ever faced a world in which despair and hope, darkness and light, good and evil, were more dramatically counterpoised. It is for us to be on the side of hope and of light and of good. May each single step in the journey of a thousand miles that lies ahead of each of us be in this direction.
