A deep sea fishing trip at the beginning ofthe year, various mountain climbing trips during the fall, skiing weekends to Bridgton, Sunday River, and Sugarloaf through the long winter months, and a clam and lobster bake in the spring. These are some of the activities the Outing Club sponsored through the year. The Outing Club was led, this year, by president, Arlene Johnson, vice- president, Judy Rollins, secretary, Jody Mimsp treasurer, Penny Marsawp and publicity chairmen Janice Ganey and Joanne Robbins. The advisor ofthe Outing Club was Miss Nancy Gilman. 77

The Women's Athletic Association is composed of most of the student body, and its officers are elected by them. Their purpose is to develop sportsmanship and a keen interest in sports. Since it is made up of so much of the student body, the spirit of Westbrook is truly represented. W. A. A. organizes inter-house tournaments, games, play days, as well as a variety of other activities. Winter Carnival is one of its most important activities. A iazz concert, snow sculptures, formal dance, and lots of fun and laughter characterize this weekend. The olticers this year are Mimi Leighton, president, Peggy Mackey, vice- president, Dotty Kasprow, secretary, and Sue Robinson, treasurer. Miss Jean Gilmore is the able advisor ofthe W. A. Rosendhal, H. Nowers, D. Kasprow. The first of the inter-house competitions this year was basketball with Hersey taking first place and Deering a close second. There were many hoarse students after those games, and also good prospects for an excellent basketball team. On the varsity basketball team were Hilary Nowers, Dotty Kasprow, Sandy Musgrave, Barbara Smith, Gretchen Rosendhal, Brenda Moody, Gail Wilkes, Lu Jenson, Mimi Leighton, Sandy Sawyer, Deidre Bullard, Linda Darling, and Sue Robinson. The team played some rough competition among whom were Plymouth State Teachers' College and Husson. The team is directed in all competition and practice by Miss Jean Gilmore and Miss Nancy Gilman. 78
