After overcoming the initial impact of orientation, the freshmen of Westbrook settled down to the serious task of becoming adiustecl to college life. For many, it was their first venture away from home and the routines of studying, extra- curricular activities and college life in general were very confusing. However, they managed to find themselves and elect as their officers: Beth Kendall, presi- dent, Lu Jenson, vice-president, Amity Pierce, secretary, and Suzanne Van Kuren, treasurer. December brought the Christmas Dance and Christmas vacation, both of which were anticipated. After returning from vacation, they found the problem of mid- year exams facing them. These were not anticipated, but as the saying goes, This too will pass. They did and it was time for Winter Carnival. The advent of spring brought plans for May Weekend, which was given by the freshmen in honor of the Senior class. This was a great success and as usual, the tapping of the Junior Deans was one of the most important events of the weekend. Now it is time for finals and the thought of summer vacation is second on the minds of all. Then it will be home for the summer with the hope of returning in the fall. 54 5
