WESTBROOK ACRES The members of the class of '51 have shared many happy times at Westbrook Acres, or the farm as it is more commonly known. We are very fortunate in being the first class to share the numerous opportunities for fun that the farm offers. In April, 1950, the college purchased the 100-acre farm, which is located just off Route 302, about four miles north of Bridgron, Maine. The rambling eight-room Cape Cod style house is conveniently situated at the base of Pleasant Nlountain between Highland Lake and Moose Pond. As freshmen we made several work trips to the farm. Buildings were torn down, the house sand papered, and trails blazed to the ponds. This fall the farm took on a new coat of red paint when the first trip was made. Then it was ready to be opened for weekend trips. What fun was in store from then on! The crowd would pile into the new college bus and with all voices raised in song would head for Briclgton. A weekend trip at the farm might include volleyball and softball games, hiking up Pleasant Mt. and, of course, learning new games like Ha or I Saw a Barf' Also, many hours were spent in getting everyone In Cohootsv or introducing them to Aunt Tilly. Later in the evening, everyone would gather around the campfire or on colder nights, around that wonderful wood stove, and harmonize on the old tunes. Sometimes on Saturday nights a trip would be taken to Briclgton to see the not quite latest movie. It would always be either a six gun Western, a thriller-diller mystery or Superman. The time would come to turn in, but the more ambitious ones would choose to tell tall tales till dawn. Wasn't it heavenly to be awakened and get a whiff of bacon frying or coffee perking? With the coming of snow, Westbrook Acres turned into a winter resort for the ski and skating enthusiasts. Mt. Pleasant with its ski tow and the frozen surfaces of Moose Pond was all one could ask for. Alumnae weekend at the farm will be eagerly awaited for that means relaxation and healthy fun all rolled into one. Westbrook Acres - here we come! l
