Swett, N. Howe. VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM Under Captain Ella Gardner and Co-Captain Helene Roberts the varsity basketball team had a very successful season. Several of the games were won by a considerable margin. The various teams played were Deering High School, South Portland High School, Kents Hill, Y.Vf.C.A., Nasson College, and the University of New Hampshire. During the Winter Carnival the annual varsity vs. alumnae game was played. Again the varsity was victorious by a score of 42 to 27. Members of the team which was coached by Miss Camille Kiel and Miss Ann Webster were as follows: Ella Gardner, Helene Roberts, Jean Swett, Gloria Gendron, Naemi Lund, Jeanette Crocker, Charlene Black, Mary Rudcliclc, Nancy Howe, Jadine Raynes, Nancy Connors, Lilia McCue, Joyce DeGoey, Constance Dill, and Joanne Greene. Elizabeth Dow and Lorraine Ruel were co-managers.

RIDING CLUB With thirty-five members present, the Wanakea Riding Club elected the following officers, president, Constance Staubg vice-president, Joan Kruseg secretary, Nancy Kaullg and treasurer, Winnifred Simmonds. This year the clubhouse and stable at Tomlinson's has been alive with the activities of the club. Mom and Pop Tomlinson are endeared to all who know their careful guidance. Tests in bridling, saddling, and horsemanship were taken by all the members of the club. A drill squad was formed under the leadership of Barbara May. In October the club held a breakfast ride and everyone arose early for a refreshing Canter in the country. A Christmas party was given by the club for its members. Presents were exchanged and carols were sung. The outstanding events this year were the annual gymlchana and the Wiliter Carnival activities. Prizes were awarded at both of these events to the riders in all the classes who proved themselves worthy. Sally Friend, Mary Jipson, Jean Parfitt, Constance Staub, and Winnifred Simmonds won ribbons in many of these events. The freshman riders also proved themselves quite skilled in the activities.

THE OUTING CLUB The Outing Club, the youngest and largest organization on campus, provided out- door enthusiasts with weekend trips in skiing, mountain climbs, boat riding, and the overnight trips to the newly purchased farm in Bridgton, Westbrook Acres. Officers elected this year were, Ruth Mears, presidentg Claire Barry, vice-president, Carley Warren, secretary, Nlargaret Bragdon, treasurer, Vivian Wilson, publicity managerq Ann Laird, trip manager. On the council were Joyce deGoey, ,Mercy Barnes, Nancy Howe, Elizabeth Dow, and Barbara McCli1itock. In the Fall, the club painted the farm and put new furnishings in. Overnight trips were planned for the members and the faculty. The club held the first dance of the college year, The Fall Frolic. Guests were from University of Maine, Bowdoin, and Portland Junior College. During the Fall also, there was an outstanding climb to Nlount Chocurua. In the Spring, the club had more mountain climbs and a special boat ride on Casco Bay. On Feb. 19, newly elected members for the next year included: Judith Westaway, Charlene Black, Patricia Knapp, Jean Swett, Leilia Cameron, Joan Tubman, Suzanne Brag, Joanne Greene, Barbara Haworth, Phyllis Hitchcock, Patricia Waldron, Barbara Hesslin, Ellen Bell, Katherine Spry, and Marion Massey. In the Spring the new ofiicers will take over their duties.
