Yes, even the chaperones can enjoy themselves as Mrs. Boyle (left) and Mr. Juszynski (below) demonstrate. Shakin ' All Night Long Dancing is said to be one of the best forms of aerobic exercise. It increases the circulation of blood, tones mus- cles, and depending on whom you ' re dancing with, it can make a person lose weight just from the sweat pour- ing from their palms. WHS dances, whether they be for- mal, semi-formal, or the habitual yet madcap stag bash , rate fairly high on the old student interest-activity meter. D.J. ' s spin their records to sell- out crowds, and chaperones do all that they can just to keep the extra multi- tudes out. If a passerby was to look beyond the steam-fogged windows of the lobby, he or she might think it was jello wres- tling night at Jim ' s Slam Dance Pal- ace. However, although dances may seem slightly untamed, things are kept well under control by the fearless (and crazy) chaperones. These adults must be given due credit for their time and willingness to lend a hand (or a wastebasket). Our dances are so much more than just a social gathering. They act as an opportunity to unwind, get down, and hopefully (for some) as a chance to get a little closer to some particuar member of the opposite sex. At such events, students display untapped energy that lasts long after the music stops. By the time the last slow dance is played, the desire for another dance to be scheduled is well implanted in the minds of many. Of course, there are also those people who each time regret coming and swear that they will never go to an- other dance again. It is true that good times are not guaranteed. The dance provides the opportunity for a good time, and then the dancers have to fend for their own fun. In general, ev- eryone fends pretty well. 29
