Feeding Time At The Zoo It has long been a tradition among students to complain about school food, but the kitchen staff does the best they can with what they ' ve got. Let ' s just hope that the saying, You are what you eat doesn ' t hold true at school. The cafeteria has different moods, which can be unfortunate for some people. For example, the student who either has a headache or needs to study an entire semester of biology in twenty minutes will not appreciate a jubilant chorus of Happy Birthday to you from one of the more enthusi- astic tables (usually filled with girls). These singers are usually told by a ta- ble of football players quite loudly to SHUT UP! , as they are trying to concentrate on their double lunches. As luck goes, the days when all is quiet on the lunch room front (which is not often) are the days when some poor kid drops his loaded, plastic tray with a resounding BANG in the middle of the floor. Of course, the echo of this humiliation is quickly replaced by the roaring applause of a standing ova- tion. Sometimes lunch isn ' t every- body ' s favorite period. (Far above)The sad side effects of a quick Westboro High lunch. (Directly abo- ve)The lunch line at its tamest. (Right)Stefan Marsland pauses to figure out what he just ate. 22

(Below)Mrs. Boyle enjoys her role as hostess on December 19. Festivities ' Twas the week before holiday va- cation and all through the school, ev- ery student was smiling, despite the No Elfing rule. This year, the ad- ministration decided that they had had enough of certain holiday festivi- ties such as elfing at the high school. However, the School Commit- tee relented somewhat after a while, knowing that they really couldn ' t post elf snipers in the halls, and the tradi- tion lived on. Everyone was dressed in their best red and green and gave an atmosphere of holiday cheer to the school. Also, several seniors brought that holiday cheer to the streets of Westboro, despite the pouring rain. You just can ' t reason with elves some- times. Back at the school, the rest of the students were getting involved in the festivities. The foreign language de- partment threw a party (actually a fi- esta) hosted by Mrs. Boyle. There were decorations, music, and lots of food. Entertainment was provided by an up and coming magician, Kurt Mo- siejczuk, who put on a show that would put David Copperfield to shame. The high point of the party was the wild breaking of the pinata and of course, diving for the candy. After finishing the few last min- ute tests that our understanding teachers were kind enough to give us,the parties and elfing were a wel- come break to people who already had sugarplums dancing in their heads. (Above)Elaine Esper strings up one of the unsuspecting pinatas that will soon be defaced. 21
