0 ian, Mrs. Libbey. And, when the dilemma of college finally rolls around, our guid- ance department is ready to handle the worst problems and worries. We have mentioned just a few of the individuals who have helped us to chart our course on our voyage through West- borough High School. The entire faculty is pictured on the following pages. We thank you all for preparing us to begin new voyages in search of unknown shores. A special thanks goes this year to Mrs. Nickerson and to Dr. Chapman. After years of service with WHS they have com- pleted their journey, and are moving on to other pursuits. Mrs. Nickerson has sailed with WHS for 20 years and has gained a more than seaworthy reputation. She has coached the girls basketball and baseball teams, and she was promoted from her duty as phys- ical instructor to Assistant to the Athletic Director. Dr. Chapman will be remembered too with highest esteem. She headed the Home Economics Department, and on her own she organized many clubs such as: Future Homemakers, HERO and a group called PACT. She took students on many two day conventions as well. In ad- dition to this, she was the founder of the ships Festival of the Arts. Both teachers will be remembered for the many contributions they have made during their years at WHS. 27

25 9 Mrs Since the day the sailors began their journey into the unknown seas, every di- rection and change of direction was taken under the guidance of the navigators. The navigators set their initial course and guid- ed them along every step of the way, using their special talents and instruments to al- low the sailors to reach the destinations awaiting them . . . The exceptional faculty at Westbor- ough High has enriched us all, academi- cally, as well as personally, with their car- ing attitude. This year we ' d especially like to honor and congratulate someone who has devoted twenty five years to students at Westborough High, Mr. Ballard. As a guidance counselor, he has provided valu- able counsel and advice to confused crew members and worried First Mates who have to make important future decisions. Mr. Ballard, you are a true navigator! Each and every member of the faculty has certain characteristics and distinctions which we will always remember. What would a day at school be like without the comedy antics of Mr. Sharpe, the quick wit of Westborough ' s swellest guy, Mr. Juszynski, or the sometimes puzzling hu- mor of Mr. Kasierski ' s shaggy dog sto- ry. Others, such as Mrs. Boyle and Mr. Cerasoli, have a flair for the dramatic, while clever sarcasm is the mark of Mr. Heckman and his devlish grin. With per- sonalities such as these, the sailors at WHS seldom find a moment that is ordinary or dull. The extraordinary people who com- prise our faculty are not limited only to the classroom. From his office, Mr. Vail, our skipper, runs a tight ship and keeps the crew in order. Westborough High has sorely missed Mr. Robert Kirby this year at his familiar post of Assistant Principle. Much appreciation goes to Mr. Me- whiney, who has taken over Mr. Kirby ' s responsibilities, and who has held firm in the face of flying food and other milder mutinies. When it comes to needing information, interpreting school rules, or just trying to find a helping hand, the secretarial staff is always ready. In study hall, Mrs. Howe has been a sincere friend to all of us with her interest and motherly advice. Many stu- dents who have never seen a library before would be lost without our skillful librar- 26

To the Graduates: So now we have come to that time when the Great Quartermaster tolls eight bells on the final watch of our four year voyage together. We can now chart only one course — that for a cruise down Memory Lane as opposed to the unknown waters over which we have sometimes sailed. As your ship ' s Captain, it is easy to reflect on the highlights of our trip: never before so many National Merit scholars; never before was such success achieved in athletics; your Booster Day victory this year; your introduction of the Powder Puff Game; your enthusiasm last Fall for Friday morning lobby serenades . Indeed, you were a spirited crew. Your class officers and Student Council leaders — the Petty Officers on our ship — have minded well the helm, have kept the rudder amidship and have steered a straight course to the final port called Graduation. After you receive your memorable souvenier on that day there will be only one voyage remaining — a cruise on the ship Vocation through the sea of Life. The Captain, on behalf of the ships officers called faculty, extends to each crew member a sincere hope that your trip will always find you in calm and joyous seas with a full sail and following winds. As the song says: Until we meet once more here ' s wishing you a happy voyage home . J. Robert Vail Principal 28
