The boys were delxghted Wlth our new math teacher M1ss Hess, or maybe they were really 1nterested 1n geometry Her classes got her down though In fact, one day she got so angry at Joan Fourmer that whxle she was stamp1ng her foot the heel of her shoe came off Fortunately for her, she had an extra pa1r of shoes Oh well pat1ence IS a v1rtue Our dance th1s year went a long way towards erasing the prev1ous year s fa1lure Oh, Jumor year at last We were upper classmen, The ma1n events of the season were our two dances and the class r1ngs Our tr1p 1nto forelgn lands th1s year conslsted of a Journey to the thr1v1ng metropolxs of Worcester Under the watchful eyes of MISS Conroy and Mrs Rlley, we trooped 1nto the theater to see that very educat1onal f1lm, Hamlet , after a few gentle rem1nders that we were 1n Worcester, not Westboro and that we should act accord1ngly Then came the day when spr1ng fever h1t J une, Ina, and Helen 1n the m1ddle of February Desplte blustery wmds, theydec1ded anyth1ng was better than the torture of another publ1c speakmg class They devlsed a un1que plan Wh1Ch was completely fool proof, or so they thought Checkmg for afternoon attendance, they left the prem1ses at one o clock because they knew the professor never checked the attendance Unfortunately th1S was the day that Dr Russell was plann1ng to choose a g1rl for a speak1ng part at the Clark Tournament S1nce the names weren t l1sted as absent, the owners must be somewhere Consequently the entlre bu1ld1ng was turned UpS1de down 1n search of the three honor students who every teacher was sure, would never do anythmg wrong To add 1nsult to 1nJury M1ss Boswell caught them play1ng gm rummy 1n the outer Off-ICB dur1ng the1r afternoon conf1nement W1ll you never learn cr1me does not pay? season ma1nly because It was a Sad1e Hawk1ns Dance Our adv1ce to the undergraduates for future successful dances IS Don t depend on the boys, leave lt to the g1rls' That was not our only success, for m December we had our Sen1or Play entxtled And Came the Sprmg You ll probably all remember some of our memorable scenes Roger, we thought your pr1nc1pal 1nterest was sc1ence Although our strength was wan1ng we st1ll had courage enough to undertake the plann1ng of a yearbook Thanks to M1ss Conroy lt IS now complete and we hope th1s w1ll prove an 1nsp1rat1on to SUCCCSSIVG generatlons Soon the class of 1950 w1ll be nothmg more than a p1cture hangmg 1n the downstar1s corr1dors But our sp1r1t and 1ntellect w1ll lmger forever 1n the annals of W stboro Hlgh school Jafar! f 7 f 3 . , . , . . , . . . , . . Well we were determlned to make the most of our last year ln Jumor hrgh school One of our momtors Ann Forsberg lost her post because of an unfortunate acc1dent It was a small matter of puttmg a laundry tack on Conn1e Campbell s chaxr Fortunately for Conn1e she d1dn t s1t on the tack but unfortunately for Ann she told M1ss Dev1n Punlshment was swlft and Just One day Byron Andrews never partxcularly noted for h1s quxetness took advantage of the bell to make hke a B 29 Exther the bell was too soft or Byron was too loud because M1ss Dev1n heard h1m Byron she sa1d you w1l1 please apo1og1ze for your rude outburst Byron was stubborn but so was M1ss Dev1n After spendmg the better part of the day 1n the off1ce he was brought before the class He sa1d, and I quote Pardon me for my rude outburst It shall not happen agam We always thought the speech was not Byron s 1dea I-hgh school at last' Only four more years to go We were propably the most energeuc bunch of freshles ever to enter h1gh school Wxth the axd of our adv1ser Mr Bennett we ra1sed money for the Ice Follxes The h1ghl1ght of our tr1p was the dlsappearance of B1lly Hanavan We spent a frantxc twenty mmutes looklng for h1m No one was more aston1shed than B1lly He was about to call the Boston Pol1ce to look for the class It was at th1s t1me that Hughle Tufts found It was most unwlse to heckle M1dg1e Shepherd One day when he was amusxng h1mself by takmg her books she socked h1m 1n the nose wxth a sw1ft back hand It was hard to say who was the more surprmsed Some of the more br1ll1ant students had taken Latm w1th Mlss St George As she 1n formed us 1n the begmnmg of the year Latln 1S not a dead language Belleve me It wasn t our fault we d1d our best to make It so Our f1rst dance was not a rousmg success As a matter of fact It could have been called almost a flop But we drowned our sorrow 1n preparatlon for a baseball game 1n Boston It looked hke ra1n when we started out but we declded to take a chance We shouldn t have When we arrxved the game had been cancelled, so Mr Bennett got our money back Smce no one wanted to go home we declded to see a movle We unanimously agreed that Duel 1n the Sun more t.han made up for the cancelled game The crowmng event of thxs year was a class p1cn1c held on Fay Mounta1n under the d1rect1on of Mr Bennett We never could understand though why only two boys showed up Franc1s Adams and Davld Houston d1dn t seem to mxnd too much however Sophomore year we trooped expectantly back to school Imagxne the horr1f1ed look on our faces when we d1scovered our home room had been pamted shocking pmk That wasn t all, elther, for almost every room on the top floor had been exposed to th1s same paxnt Job You get used to It after a whxle , . 1 9 - . . , . .
