THE HALLS OF WEST YORK HIGH SCHOOL 1Tune- Halls of Ivyul With our fond farewell we leave thee, We, the Class of '51. Your memories weill cherish through the lives we've begun. We will miss our friends and teachers Who have filled our happy days With joy and understanding- Weill remember, always. There, too, will be a tear for every happy year Welve spent with you, our own dear West York High. Our colors Blue and White have taught us what is rightg Our paths of life were opened to us here in The halls of West York High School. In our hearts you'll live for aye, And may we never let your honor fade away. -Palsy Johnson Yvonne Stallman THE FLAME OF '51 Six years ago a spark was born, ,Twas the Class of '51, We entered West York High that morn, And the flame was then begun. The glow was faint, but flick'ringg there In the hearts of youth arose A mighty goal, a timely dare: And the class their leaders chose. The spark grew brighter through the years As new names adorned the roll, We learned to think and conquer fears, And we set a mighty goal. We did not choose to build for fame- Character, we made our creedg Then, for this high and noble aim, Cravely strived in word and deed. The flame has grown both bright and strong For our class has climbed the height, Weive reached the goal and with a song, We go forth, our flame alight. Will it grow bright in years to come? Will it fade and slowly die? Our lovely flame, will it become Like a star up in the sky? The flame will grow in sweet array, When the world sees greatness done Someone will ask, and you can say- ,Tis the flame of '5l. -Jayne Klinedinst Dorothy Kaley Sarah Ann Strayer E311 D0 gnu Kcmcmber? -our first class meeting when we appointed committees to choose our class motto and class flower. Virginia Wierman What's cooking?', is a familiar question asked the seven members of the recently organized club. 'iAny- thing from biscuits to a full course meal with a side light on etiquette and table settingf, is the answer of the club members. White caps, shirts, and aprons and bow ties were a Kachelvrs Klub familiar sight at the Christmas and Easter dinners as the Bachelors moved into the kitchen of the Cafe- teria. You would never expect debating among such a group of fine young men, but when dishwashing time comes there is always room for argument. Their favorite dish is spaghettig and to climax each cooking period, the Bachelors are rewarded with the satisfaction of eating their own prepared meal. The team began their schedule with a week of train- ing at Camp Cann-Edi-On under the guidance of mentors ,l. Richard Eckenroth and Donald Wissirl- ger, with Herbert Killinger joining them in York. Bill Boyer, tackle, and Don Gantz, guard, captained the squad. However, a fractured ankle kept Crantz from playing until September 30. The Bulldogs opened their season by trouncing Lititz I0-0 at l.ititzg only to have Ephrata spoil their Homecoming game with a 12-0 margin. Meeting Manheim, the Blue and White gridders chaulked up a touchdown in the waning moments of the contest to deadlock the score 13-13g and then overpowered Columbia 27-7 for their second win. A 30-9 defeat from Palmyra marred the dedication of the new West York Memorial Athletic Field. Biglerville's hard-charging Joe Wade powered them to a 25-6 victory over the Bulldogs. In a bruising contest, Elizabethtown defeated West York l9-0.
