.-l WEST YORK JUNIOR SENIOR I-IIGI-I SCHOOL Less than two score years hase passed smce West York became a borough So rapld was rts growth that the need of a Hugh School became xmperatrve In March 1925 a group of crtrzens met to dxscuss the adusablllty of erectmg a new un1orSen1or Hugh School burldmg Crtrzens cheerfully endorsed the plan and rn 1927 the bulldrng became a reahty It consisted of twelve classrooms, a lrbrary a lab oratory, a commercral room, and an oflice Ap proxrmately three hundred and fifty students were enrolled under the gurdance of a faculty consrstmg of elesen members Another two years passed by and agarn came the need for larger and better equlpment and f3C1llflCS Each year an rncreasmg number of students crowded the classrooms Admrnrstrators were un able to work under these congested condrtlons junior Hngh School classes were sent to the Wd ham Shelly Bulldrng untrl rt, too, had a capacity population The Board of Educatron presented the problem to the cltxzens of the borough An addrtron to the unnor Semor Hugh School burldrng was proposed and heartily endorsed In May 1936 the project was started and on anuary 7 1937 the dedrcatory exercises were obserxed Over two hundred pupxls mos ed from the Wrllram Shelly Building into the new classrooms Crowded condltrons have been elrmmated and progressxve advantages mtroduced A combmed gymnasrum and audrtorrum affords a place for physical educatron and dramatrc expresslon A larger lrbrary satxshes the growrng demand for pleasure and reference readrng A recently mstalled publlc address system wrth a loud speaker rn every classroom IS greatly facllrtatmg the admlnlstratlon of jumor Semor Hrgh School bu'smess Students and teachers are proud of thus fine bulldmg and are deeply grateful to the patrons who have so eagerly and graclously provided lt for them lpdgf' 41 2 l . :LJ ' N na , , 7 N., I I .
