PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Governor Terry Sanford has made QUALITY EDU- CATION the major theme of his administration. In a speech in Greensboro in 1961 he made this appeal to parents and students: I want young people to be caught up in the spirit of this thing. I want them to realize that something really big is taking place in . their state and that its ultimate successor '- failure rests, in large measure, with them. I Want them to know that much is being given them, and that much is expected of them. I want them to sit in the classroom and be reminded constantly--not in so many words, but by actions of their teachers and the abun- dance of their educational opportunities-- that they have adefinite responsibility to their teachers, to their parents, to their state, and most especially to themselves. I heartily agree with Governor Sanford. Regardless of how good the school may be, it will be only as good as the people want and permit it to be. We have had avery wholesome change in attitude toward education since the Governor made his speech in Greensbo ro . The parents and students of West Yadkin School have made this possible. Everyone connected with our school seems to have a keener awareness of his responsibility. The outcome of this has made West Yadkin a better school and everyone has profited in some Way.
