CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1957, the Class of 1961 entered high school. We were 68 in num- ber then. Firstof all, our homeroom in- structors, Mr. Cash and Mr. Wright, said that it was fitting and proper to elect offi- cers: that'sjustwhatwe did. They were Glenda Swaim, President, Lorene Brown, Vice-President, David Parks, Secretary, Judy Stanley, Treasurer. We also added two lovely girls, Glenda Swaim and Joan Shore, to the Homecoming Court. Many of our classmates joined in different ac- tivities. After anice summer, we returned to school as sophomores. Our class had diminished in size, we numbered 60. The counselors for this year were Mr. Moretz and Mr. Carter. Again we elected some leaders. TheywereBecki Allred, Presi- dent, David Parks, Vice-President, Libby Golden, Secretary, and Kathy Smith, Treasurer. We were proud to have Jean Brown and Libby Golden to represent us in the Homecoming Court. Many clubs had Christmas parties which everyone en- joyed. Sophomore girls were asked to serve at the Junior-Senior Banquet. In the spring, we had our class picnic at Tanglewood Park. In September 1959, we once again returned to the halls of high school. We again had lost eight classmates, for our number was fifty-two. We were looking forward to a very- exciting year. Our sponsors were Mrs. Matthews and Mr. Reece. We had already learned the cus- tom of electing officers, so we were at it again. We elected Juanita Turner, Pres- ident, David Wall, Vice-President, Donnie Ray Ireland, Secretary, and Mary Lou Bell, Treasurer. We chose Kathy Smith and Claudia Swaim as attendants to the Homecoming Court. We got off to a good start on our money making drive by sell- ing things. Almost every Juniorwas seen carrying a mop or a toothbrush. Then the holidays came with more parties and a welcome vacation for all. Everyone en- joyed all the snow and sledding in Feb- ruary and March. Finally, we were able to present our Junior Class Play Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick, in spite of all the snow. After succeeding with all our money-making schemes, we were able to start work onthe Junior-Senior Banquet. We chose Mardi Gras as our theme. Everyone joined in on the decorating of the cafeteria and helped make the occasion a delightful one for all. The annual class picnic was held at Reynolds Park. r This year, 1960-61, we are seniors. We have Mrs. Wishon and Mr. Moretz as our sponsors. Our officers are Sammy Allred, President, Mary Inscore, Vice- President, Glenda Swaim, Secretary, Frankie Sloan, Treasurer. Somewhere between this year and last, we lost a stu- dent, our number is fifty-one. This year we were honored to complete the Home- coming Court with its Queen, Glenda Swaim, and her two Senior attendants, Mary Lou Bell and Libby Golden. We have many things to look forward to this year, the Senior Play, our Wash- ington trip, the Junior-Senior Banquet, Class Night, the Baccalaureate Sermon, and finally our Graduation Day. It seems so far away but yet so close. And it seems such a short time since that September day whenwe startedour high school days. We are happy that our perseverance will soon pay off and we-will be free from homework and textbooks. But still we are sad, for we are leaving the place where we have spent so much of our last twelve years. We have some regrets that we are leaving, but we are eagerly look- ing forward to see what the future may hold for us. Becki Allred Historian
