RETROSPECT Hi, everyone I am going to look backward. How is this possible? Well, I have a magic ball loaned to me by a wonderful friend who thought it would be a swell idea to review the past of the Seniors of 1958. Do I have permission? Certainly, as historian of the class I have in my possession permission to look back into the past school life of the Seniors of l958. I know that many people are superstitious and say it is a-sure sign of evil to review the past. This is the only way we have to see the advantages as well as progress we have taken in the past several years. So let's ignore these superstitions andtake a look at our progressive years in high school. First, I see us as a group of 42 young and adventurous students anxious to begin four wonderful years in high school. Lester Holleman was our class pre side nt , Jame s Blevins our reporter, Margie Peele our secretary and treasurer, Charles Hutchins our vice-president, and Amanda Gough our song leader. During our Freshman year several of our boys and girls became athletes. Cn the football team we were represented by Marcus Allred,Rubin Gardner, Wayne Wagoner, and Joe Wright. On the basketball teams were: Nancy Welborn, Joan Wooten, Car-olyn Shore, Jo Ann Livengood, Ann Collins, Ann Tucker, Joe Wright, Wayne Wagoner, and Marcus Allred, Amanda Gough and Faye Pardue yelled on the sidelines after being chosen Cheerleaders. Two pr e tty girls, Margaret Bell and Lois Ingool were chosen to represent us in the Homecoming Activi- ties. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this first year in high school. Mr. John Alexander and Mr. George Holmes were our s p on s o r s . Very soon this first year in high school had ended. Very soon came our second year in high school. By now we knew the pattern of school life verywell. We were again represented by a large n umbe r in sports. On the football team we had five boys, and five boys played on the baseball team. On the bas- ketball te am s there were five girls and six boys. Randall Cave and Stony Johnson joined Amanda Gough and Faye Pardue as Cheerleaders. Chosen to participate in the Homecoming Activities were Faye Pardue and Janie Sparks. Amanda Gough and Janie Sparks did some fancy-high stepping as they were chosen as majorettes. Our class officers did their jobs very well. They were as follows: Faye Pardue, president, Eugene Hemric, vice-president, Nancy Welborn, secretary, and Randal Cave, treas- urer. Mr. H. C. Moretz, Jr. and Mr. Hoyt Reece were our sponsors this year. Time passed quickly and one day we realized we were Juniors. During this year we hada wonder- ful time. Virginia He mric was the envy of every girl as she was chosen Miss West Yadkin. Amanda Gough and Freda Money re pre sente d us in the Homecoming Activities. Amanda Gough was chosen as a maj orette . Carolyn Shore, Nancy Welborn, Jackie Reinhardt, Joe Wright, Wayne Wagoner, and Marcus Allred made the first team in basketball. We had four boys on the football team and three boys on the baseball team. This year five girls repre sente d us as Cheerleaders. They were as follows: 'Delphine Holcomb, Betty Jane Money, Bobbie Jane Sloop, Faye Pardue, and Sylvia Ireland. There were nine wise-owls invite d into the Beta Club. Joe Wright, Rex Reavis, Eugene Hemric, Marcus Allred and Clyde King volunteered to carry us safely to and from school as bus drivers. After a long aw aite d time we were Seniors, running over with knowledge, and using it on every pos sible occasion. There were 42 of us ready to encounter this last year in high s c h o ol. Ready to prepare for the broad fuiture lying before us. To lead us through this year we chose Margie Peele as president, Jackie Reinhardt, vice-president, Pauline Brown, secretary, and Marcus Allred, treasurer. Many Senior girls were cho se n as Cheerleaders. They were as follows: Faye Pardue, Chief: Mar- garet Bell, Sylvia Ireland, Betty Jane Money,-Bobbie Jane Sloop , Rose Macy, Patty Long, and Delphine Holc omb . Joe Wright, Wayne Wagoner, Jackie Reinhardt, Marcus Allred, Nancy Welborn and Carolyn Shore were on the first team in basketball. Playing football were Wayne Wagoner, Gary Wag- oner, Randall Cave, Marcus Allred, Joe Wright, and Clyde King. Amanda Gough was Chief Majorette leading the band and Ann Tucker, Joan Wooten, and Nancy 'Velborn who were a few of the Letter Girls. Bobby Hemric was Editor-in-Chief of the annual and Faye Pardue was Business Manager. Three Senior girls were invite d into the Beta Club. They were Amanda Gough, Pa uline Brown, and Ann Huffman. This year we chose Faye Pardue and Margie Peele as the Senior Attendantsto our Homecoming Queen, Freda Money. This year Marcus Allred, Joe Wright, Clyde King, Eugene Hemric, and Lester Shore were faithful bus drivers we had two capable and wonder- ful sponsors, Mrs. Helen Wishon and Mrs. James Mathis . We also took the long aw aite d trip for Washington and had loads of fun. These high school days will never be forgotten by the Seniors of 1958. Well, I see my friend has returned for the magic ball, so let us thank her for these cherished mo- ments we have had the privilege of reviewing once again. Margie Peele Historian BOCOCK-STROUD CO.
