' Who's Who One of the highest honors at West Virginia Institute of Technology is being named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. This year the VVho's Who Committee selected seventeen men and six Women for the position on the basis of activities, citizenship, leadership, scholarship, and promise of becoming future leaders of America. A short biography of these students will be included in the national volume of Whois Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universitiesf' an annual publication similar to, but entirely independent of Who,-s VVho in America. As such, its purpose is to listen, report, and react to students and their opinions, or sometimes, the lack of them. Through the efforts of an entirely new staff, including a new advisor, Mr. Charles Roessler, and the Printing Management De- partment, the Collegian has ap- peared at reasonably regular in- tervals. Rick Doneghy Sports Editor H dv Charles Roessler Advisor The Collegian does not attempt or pretend to be a public relations medium, but rather it is concerned with the issues that confront students on the Tech campus. Its articles are sometimes appreciated, frequently criticized, and all too often ignored. They have tried to serve the students through the newspaper as best they know how. They can do no more. Teoh Seeksl'GrCiduCite 'A graduate program in engineering is being sought at West Virginia Tech, it was revealed by the college president, Leonard Nelson, November 21 at a faculty meeting. In a report on the progress, develop- ment, and future of the college, Nelson said that in about 10 years, the first pro- fessional degree available to would-be en- gineers in the country will be on the masters level, not the baccalaureate one. In anticipation of that happening, Tech is now seeking to olfer a Master of Science degree in engineering. Such an offering is feasible with the present faculty and facilities. The current bachelors degree programg in mechanical, electrical, civil and chemical engineering will be con- tinued. Other programs that are being sought are nursing and related paramedieal cur- ricula, computer science and data pro- ceasing. The enrollment increase of six and one- stands hctwcenv his pregnant Qrl-friend lGinny Hillel and his older benefactress lAleene Tullyi, during a rehearsal for Night Must Fall. half percent to 2410 was discussed in rel future growth. Wesleyan 6 28 Shepherd College 0 13 Concord College 7 7 Salem College 14 0 West Liberty 21 Neal Baisi, Athletic Director Football The Golden Bears of Coach Cobb ended the season with a 4-4-0 record overall. After losing to the conference champions, W. Va. State, Tech bounced back to defeat Bridgewater in a non-conference tilt. The following weekend Tech traveled to Bluefield and was defeated by the Big Blues. The Bears returned home to open their home schedule against W. Va. Wesleyan. After three consecutive victories, one of which was over the Rams of Shepherd on Homecoming Day, the Bears were on the short end of the score in their last home appearance. The final game of the season pitted the Bears against a rugged West Liberty team. The season ended on a poor note, but with many returning lettermen, this coming year should prove to be very successful for Coach Cobb and West Virginia Tech. The graduates of 1969 leave Tech this May with mixed emotions of anticipation and nostalgia: anticipation because of a simple eagerness to take up the larger concerns of life for which these four years have been a prelude and a preparation, nostalgia because of the friends and memories we leave behind. Glancing over the years we have spent here, there is much to raise a smile and a nod of appreciation - the people we knew, the wit, the buffoonery, the treasure of intellectual achievement. Much is to be regretted, much that was dull and unlively and pointless, but even that was part of the learning and maturing process. While we were here We tried to 'contribute something to the growth and development of West Virginia Institute of Technology, and if there is any legacy to leave behind, we hope it may be one of loyalty towards WVIT. The spirit of supervening loyalty is a rare and valuable quality. To those who will return to WVIT the graduates of 1969 leave happy in the thought that you will continue the spirit, the tradition, and the progress of a growing and changing institution. It is with a sigh of relief, perhaps one of regret that I write these final words for the 1969 Bear Tracks. Only six short months ago I thought that this moment would never come and yet now that it is here, I feel a strange sense of nostalgia for something that has grown to become a part of me. For the staff of the 1969 Bear Tracks this book is more than a conglomeration of pictures and words. Each page is filled with memories and experiences which will be diflicult to erase from our minds. To those of you who have made this a very Worthwhile and rewarding experience for the editor, I say very sincerely, Thank Youi' and God Bless Youf, Sincerely, Q Tom Healy Editor, 1969 Bear Tracks 200 f,, I. ----- - l-T--fi w., ,S . ,, K x ' - ., - 'FRNFTT 'TW' T.'TT'?'fT'- ff ' F 2 'K 'Tfnfiwfw' 'TI-.f - J 11- ' - r w?
