Charleston Charleston Area Medical Center, repre- senting the largest hospital complex in the state, formed a partnership with WVU in 1972 to develop medical and oth- er health sciences programs. The training of students of medicine, dentistry, phar- macy, and nursing occurs primarily in two main hospitals — the Memorial Divi- sion located in Kanawha City, and the General Division situated in the heart of downtown Charleston. 12
