Carmichael, Ph.D. Among all the people one meets during medical school some stand out and im- press you due to their excellence and to the excellence that they demand from you. Dr. Stephen Carmichael is one such person. He taught us that excellence in anatomy is the only acceptable level. In this course all students, whether they liked or disliked him, recognized that Dr. Carmichael showed great ability and concern. Dr. Carmichael ' s skills in teaching are closely paralleled by his deep inter- est in student affairs. He has served us as an advisor, a teacher, and a friend. We the class of 1979 in appreciation would like to dedicate this book to him with thanks and in the hope that the example he sets will continue to influ- ence both students and faculty.
