DEDICATION This 1975 volume of the PYLON is dedicated to our Dr. David S. Jones, Professor of Anatomy and Surgery, who joined the West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1966. This is truly a case of dedication in reverse , and our feeble effort to honor the good doctor cannot compensate for his unselfish dedication to us as students, trying to unravel the intricacies of anatomy. His sharing of knowledge was tem- pered with such a subtle input of humor and human under- standing that the otherwise boring study of anatomy became an interesting and evocative subject. Little Dave Jones, while growing up on a Missouri farm, had no early signals that one day he would be one of our nationally-known anatomists. He pursued the conventional studies in public schools and also at Westminster College, where he graduated in 1932. Following his brother ' s foot- steps, he earned an M.S. degree at St. Louis University, and went on to the University of Minnesota to complete his Ph.D. in Anatomy in 1937. He then joined the faculty of Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University, where he served double duty, on the anatomy faculty and as a medical stu- dent. He was awarded his M.D. degree in 1945 and started his rise through the academic ranks. He was founder of the Mid- western Society of Anatomists and is a past president of the Cajal Club, an organization for neuro-anatomists. In 1966 a friend, Dr. Donald L. Kimmel, became Chairman of Anat- omy at W.V.U. Dr. Jones, visiting a number of times in Almost Heaven, West Virginia, liked what he saw, left his burdens in Chicago, and settled on a hill overlooking Morgantown. In 1968 Dr. Jones received the MacLachlan Memorial Award for his excellence in the teaching of basic medical sciences. A couple of years ago Dr. Jones and Dr. Donald H. Enlow, Chairman of the Department of Anatomy, presented papers before the Southern Society of Anatomists and Dr. Jones was selected as the new president-elect of the society. During the past year Dr. Jones hosted the meeting of the Southern Anatomists in Morgantown. There are numerous other professional accolades which have been heaped upon this modest gentleman, and it is certain that he is grateful, but we his students, know that his greatest rewards - oftimes put aside by his wry humor and a twinkling eye - come from the success of his students in the learning process.
