EUGENE STAPLES Director of University Hospital In August of 1967, a new chairman of the Department of Psychiatry began his duties at West Virginia Univer- sity School of Medicine. Dr. Wilford Spradlin brought with him youth and enthusiasm. Through his efforts medical students were given an opportunity to put their class- room lectures into practice as acting house officers. Dr. Spradlin has a sincere dedication to bringing about much needed changes in the process of medical educa- tion. He encourages frank, open discourse between students and faculty. He believes that the primary goal of a medical school faculty member is to be a teacher, not a researcher. By dedicating The Pylon Yearbook to Dr. Spradlin, the Class of 1969 wishes to recognize him as both a teacher and a friend. THE CLASS OF 1969 W.V.U. School of Medicine CLINICAL FACULTY DR.
