DR. EDWARD G. STUART Dedication The Class of 1968 wishes to dedicate the Pylon Yearbook to the memory of Dr. Edward G. Stuart, our late assistant vice-president, teacher and friend. In Dr, Stuart we realized a unique combination of talents and qualities rarely found in one individual. As an educator, he was intensely interested in the entire education process, and he was devoted to excellence. He frequently questioned the traditionally accepted didactic methods, often experimented with newer un- proven methods and always tried to find abetter method of teaching. He was able, as few teachers are, to stimulate thought, imagination, and creativity. He taught us to accept no fact at face value without first challenging its validity. As our assistant dean. Dr. Stuart was genuinely interested in the problems, progress and welfare of each individual student. Many of us had occasion to con- front him with personal problems. Although many de- mands were made on his time, he was always willing to accomodate the students. He was kind, warm, sincere and understanding. His advice was always frank and realistic, his decisions fair and just. Very few problems remained unsolved in his hands. Perhaps the one outstanding quality that we will remember more than any other was his unfailing sense of humor which prevailed in many trying circumstances. It was this sense of humor combined with his genuine interest in every one of us that did so much to establish our morale and unity. Dr. Stuart, in addition to being an outstanding educator and a man of fine character and intellect, was indeed our friend. To his memory, then, we dedicate the 1968 Pylon. Class of 1968 W.V. U. School of Medicine April 29, 1968
