TROUBLED WATERS Because the most stridently vocal students are on the left, one may overlook the right as well as the center of that silent majority for whom President Nixon claims to speak. And no one can deny that WVU has its conservative traditionalists and its silent middle. Is this change a universal at WVU in 1969-1970? Perhaps the story of change on these pages relies too much on the turbulence at the edge of the stream. Nevertheless, ripples — even if not indicative of the water ' s depth — do indicate the direction and strength of its currents. Ripples appear where the current drives water against a n obstruction, and so they reveal both the obstruc- tion and the current. Change is like water in yet another way, for a stream is both ever- moving and ever the same stream. So, too, is WVU now a university of change and still the same West Virginia University. Medal of Honor Recipient Thomas W. Bennett Tom Bennett was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor on April 7, 1 970 for his actions in the Viet Nam conflict. While on campus, Tom was the original chairman of the Code of Conduct Committee. 10
