The Spring Student Government election of 1955 witnessed the traditional struggle for power between the Independent Party and the Student Party . . . Vigorous campaigning included stirring speeches . . . strong party platforms . . . heated debates .... pre-election bonfires on the athletic BETTY SHUMATE Student Body V ice-President CARLEY ANN REES Executive Council Secretary field . . . rain on election day . . . final tabulation of the votes . . . Student Party sweep of all offices except one seat in the Legislature.
