i STUDENT GOVERNMENT The University ' s Student Government vv ' as reorganized In 1952 under a new constitution providing for three separate departments of governmental activity: the Student Executive Council, the Student Legislature, and the Student Court. Student Government coordinates the work of Its committee system and of various campus organizations. Besides sponsoring many educational and enter- taining activities, it provides valuable experience In democratic self-government, and represents the student body with the faculty, administration, and off-campus groups. This year, in addition to the usual weekends and other events. Student Govern- ment reorganized freshman traditions on a voluntary basis, revamped the student- faculty committee structure, and Instituted a new freshman election procedure. Student Government helped launch the student identification card project and the Spiriteers (flash-card section). It organized the student petition for the Gov- ernor and State Legislative leaders. It achieved the long-desired return of student elections to student supervision through ratlficarion of the student-conducted elections amendment to the Student Body Constitution. Through newsletters, open meetings, and suggestion sessions, Student Gov- ernment established closer liaison with the students whom It serves. Increasing In efficiency, activity, and responsiveness to student needs. Student Government is growing In its role as the representative of the entire student body.
