W what significance has the name, ' Monticola ' ? we were asked hy a student the other day. Well, just what does it mean, the staff asked itself collectively, and thus was born a search for knowledge. Memories of high school Latin were perused and the only information ohtained was that the word had some connection with mountains. Finally the first assistant to the associate assistant literary editor spoke up and sug- gested the dictionary. There it was, a comhination of two good Latin words, mons meaning mountain, and colere, to dwell; together they meant mountain dweOers, or in our language, mountaineers. ny attempt to fully record the history of one college year would be impossible; all that the Monticola can do, as the student annual is to endeavor to separate the wheat from the chaff, to portray the high spots of the ever changing panorama in such a way as to recall to each student his personal contribu- tion to ihe stream of events, an admittedly ambitious undertaking. The 1341 Monticola has beheved that it could best fulfill this desire by employing the style used this year, a workable compromise between the conservatism of the usual cohege annual and the radical change for the sake of change ideal of some ultra modern pubHcations. -in And the mountains labored and brought forth the Monticola. tn -I ' ■ ■a ' aii ■•.
